how is it on carpets ? does it clean well?

This is a straight suction machine, that means this does not have any type of agitating brush roll. That doesn't mean you can't use this to clean carpets, even with decent piles. What it does mean is that the job of agitation is moved to you. This, for the most part means more passes with the floor tool. Each pass of the floor tool will agitate the carpet and allow the suction to pick up more dirt. Additionally, the straight suction floor tools are commonly narrower than powered brush rolls. If you have short piled carpet, you have a third option. You can use a turbine floor brush tool, not the smaller ones for stairs or chairs, but one for floors. While this accessory is not included with the machine, you can purchase it separately. These tools, in exchange for loosing some airflow, drive a brush roll without using an electric motor.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the bagless and the bagged besides the obvious one takes a bag and one doesn't??? Thanks!!

I have TERRIBLE arachnophobia, so a bagless vacuum is a nightmare for me. I much prefer one with bags. If I suck up a dead spider, I'm thankful that I can't see it in the bag; I can just toss the full bag away.
