Vegetable oil or chainsaw oil, I don't know which. and I do not understand what oil to use when the vial becomes empty (none is prescribed). Instructions say use vegetable oil if trimming fruit trees, because mineral oil might damage the trees. So I assume vegetable oil is ok and I'll just use that. **Q: What is the chain speed? How many feet per second does it cut?** A: It is a small, battery powered saw with a 4" blade. I don't know how fast or slow the chain moves, about average for any chainsaw I would guess, but it will not cut at any 'feet per second'. It WILL cut through a 2" branch in less than a minute though, with very little effort on my part, holding it in one hand. The battery life is what you would expect. I just make sure both batteries are fully charged when starting a cutting job. It is very light weight too.
