Came annealed so it was easy to work with. Hardened good. I used it to make a replacement blade for my Spyderco knife.

I've been making knives off and on for 10 years. I'm no professional, but definitely not an amateur. Since the cost of everything has doubled lately I thought I'd try some Amazon steel. Well, this "1095" made a good knife that will hold an edge. I butchered 15 chickens today and didn't need to sharpen. My wife's German made knives needed to be sharpened 3 times doing the same task. I'm not saying it's not 1095 but my eyebrows raised when I went to blue the blade. Very inconsistent. Then after I cleaned that mess up I went to acid etch it in ferric chloride and it was super splotchy. No 1095 I've got from Jantz ever did that. Always a solid uniform black coat. With that said, it made a good sharp knife that holds an edge. That's what I care about.

Great steel so far. I’m making a knife and it is easy and soft to work with. Minimal warping or none, and it feels legit. Packaging broke because of the weight but no big deal nothing was damaged it is steel after all. You get what is advertised!!

This material came quickly. The material is laser/torch cut and seems to have been annealed after cutting, so no crunchy edges! Would be more stars, but for the sizing of the blanks. The 1/4 thkns is 6mm, the 1 1/2 width is a 64th undersized. Make sure you order with this in mind. All said, I would order from the seller again., Chris

I got this pack and the 1095 and used them to get practice on so when the time comes I can buy the more expensive higher quality steel from proven sellers. Well worth it and probably going to buy again just to make more complicated designs.

These came in nice and flat, well oiled to prevent rusting, and proper dimensions. The only downside I found with theses is my lack of skills.

I question whether this product is 1095 steel throughout. Doing a spark test, the steel produces sparks when struck with a flint along its factory edge indicating high carbon steel content for knife making. However, if the steel is cut lenghtwise, even with a low heat saw as to not anneal the steel during cutting, the spark test fails producing no sparks. This leads me to belive that only the factory edges have been produced to create high carbon steel and not throughout the rest of the steel. This may be problematic when making knives where the final cut edge of the knife does not occupy the factory edge leaving you with perhaps a softer knife edge than desired.

This steel sparks, hardens and acid etches just like 1560 & I've forged with both types. Nothing like the 1095 I got from the UK last time I purchased some, and is more a lighter grey when etched. To be a fair review, it was very clean, well wrapped steel and needed little preparation for damascus & at least it wasnt mild steel i suppose, but I'd prefer 1095 I need to prepare than 1560 that doesn't.
