UPDATE (11-26-18): Just bought a 2nd set of these jars. Had kombucha brewing in the other two and we gave them away to family to start their own brewing... so I bought two more jars to create a new scoby hotel and start another batch of kombucha. I use these as additions to my primary vessel which has a spigot. Again - good quality, solid glass, great price... what you see is what you get and for kombucha, it's a nice, cost-effective vessel to brew in. These jar were exactly what I was looking for - I needed to add to my kombucha brewing. I purchased these two jars to get some additional volume with one, as well as create a "SCOBY Hotel" in the other one. There's nothing fancy here - just good jars at a very good price. I put them to use immediately. The glass is thick and I'm not worried about breakage and they included the cheesecloth and rubber bands which was a nice touch if you are using them to brew kombucha. One gallon size is good for my needs - not too big, not too small. I plan to get another set as family members now want to start brewing and the best way is to get them started with a good batch in these inexpensive jars which they can then use to keep their SCOBY and some good starter juice.... which they move to a bigger container with a spigot.

I am so happy with my gallon glass jar! It has worked perfectly for my Kombucha making project. When the jar arrived, it was packed in protective packaging to keep it safe during shipping. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package to find not only the jar, but also a cloth and rubber band to use during my Kombucha making. My first batch of Kombucha is done & it worked like a charm! The lid that came with the first jar had a small crack in it right out of the package, but the company contacted me to make sure I was happy with their product & I just mentioned the lid. They immediately shipped me a replacement. It is so rare to not only find a product that lives up to the claims, but also a company that truly cares about it’s customers and their satisfaction. I would buy this product again & definitely will be buying from this company!

Used for fermenting kombucha, works great. no fruit flies, bugs are able to get in. Highly recommend

They’re easy to rinse store and use for all your kombucha needs! Also the rustic cloth looks great!

It’s just a simple jar with the simplest muslin cloth and rubber band. Good product, not amazing. What is amazing is that it arrived in one piece. I am surprised it was not broken because the packaging was minimal and extremely unprotected. I have no idea why it did not break. It must have been handled very carefully, even though there was no “Fragile, handle with care” sign on the box. I am grateful that it arrived safely and I did not have to file a claim for anything.

A very nice piece of glassware. I only gave it a couple of points off for "value for the money." I found something similar for $5 at Ross, or you can buy a gallon jar of pickles at Costco also for $5 and you get the pickles too! But if you don't want to go hunting for jars or like them all to look the same, then this item is for you. It comes with a nice round glass lid, but when you brew Kombucha you use a cloth top anyway so that's not an essential thing to have.

So I bought these for the jars basically and they came with no damage and exactly as expected. Have been brewing kombucha no problem in them. The cloth they come with is pretty porous and would say not ideal. The elastics are too big. But really would be silly to buy these for the cloth and elastic.
