It is a very well researched book on a complex subject that is also well written. It summarizes results in several research papers and books on population genetics, archaeology, and linguistics pertaining to prehistory, early settlement, and civilization in the Indian subcontinent. A current of common sense and objectivity underlies the entire book. The final chapters in the book are especially valuable and consists of a detailed summary, an epilogue, and a set of frequently asked questions that are answered.

This book tells you the story of the entire Indian subcontinent, so any person interested to understand how that population came to be should read this book. Remember that the indian subcontinent is not just limited to the modern republic of India, but also current regions of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. So this book is their story too.
