I washed with a mild dishwashing detergent and cleaning all the stitching as well. With a non damaging nylon brush. I used saddle soap liberally each section of the shoe/boot and startling cleaning it with saddle soap and adding more if I needed it. Cleaned all of my boots this way. Rinse it off make sure that you get everything off.
