Useful little gadget.
This timer does the job I wanted it for, and is so useful I'm planning to get another couple. I kept falling asleep in bed with the tv/dvd player still running and often didn't realise until the following morning. This timer plug is so simple to use, the power supply stays off until you press the green button when it starts to count down and then switches itself off 30 minutes later. I press the button as I get into bed and so far it has worked perfectly and switched the tv off after I've gone to sleep. I have only needed to re-set the timer once when I was watching something which I knew was around an hour long. It is easy enough and quick enough to do so not really a niggle. For this reason though, I agree with the other reviewers who have said that a 40 minute and perhaps 50 minute option would be a useful improvement. However, this timer does what I want it to do and I can relax knowing that the tv will turn itself off if I fall asleep. Good value for the price.

Fantastic device that has the potential to stop fires.
Does exactly as it says on the tin. I can think of the obvious applications, for hair straighteners for forgetful teenage girls, the iron, electric blankets etc. but mine's a more unusual one. I used to be absolutely terrible for leaving the George Foreman on and mine doesn't have a timer or auto shut off. When I lived at home with my parents my father would be there to unplug it after me. I knew when I bought my first house I wouldn't have that luxury. Now I know I never have to worry about leaving it on, because even if I do, it'll be off in 30 minutes. Not sure why there seems to be a lot of people who seem to think you need to unplug it and plug it back in to cancel the timer - switching the wall outlet off and on again does the same job, rendering the device "off" until you push the button for another 30 minutes again. Great device.

So far very pleased!
I have had no-end of problems with various 'countdown timer' plugs. I think that they are such a useful concept and are ideal for controlling things that you don't want to have to worry about "have I switched it off?". I have tried more or less every make (whereas there are dozens of different-makes of timer-switches, countdown-type are fewer in number) and the main issue I have had is reliability (something you DON'T want with this type of product). Operationally a countdown-timer needs to be very quick and easy to use... a one button type of operation will mean that you use the countdown timer without almost thinking about it, and that is fairly crucial. I have rejected the type where you have to set a countdown time, and then press another button to start because that adds an unnecessary stage of operation. I do like ones with a separate manual slider for selecting a time (that can be left in that position) and so you just then have to press a single button to start it everytime (unless you need to adjust the time... often not the case if you leave the countdown timer attached to a particular appliance). The Energenie 30min Countdown Timer does not give you any other option than 30 minutes (so it may not be ideal for every situation)... but if that is okay then it's a very simple, quick and intuitive device. I also love the way the LED blinks as it counts down the 30mins. It's a nice and reassuring visual indicator of the timer working. The Energenie is also very reasonably priced. I am mainly using it to automatically switch off small wax melt air-freshener devices, which are so easy to forget about switching off. Someone I heard about couldn't remember if they'd turned off their air freshener when they went on holiday and worried about it all the time they were away. It's for that peace of mind that I feel these countdown timers are so useful for. So far I am highly delighted with it, and have bought a second one... and if it proves reliable I will purchase more. It's affordable, nicely made, has the CE mark, not too bulky, gives you an indication as to its operational status etc. I really do hope that it also proves reliable going forward. I have thrown about 5 other makes of countdown timers away. Hopefully this one will stay the course! I have only given it 4 stars because of the fact it only has a single fixed countdown time (30 minutes) - but that's what it is, and it's not a fault or anything, but a side manual slide switch to allow say 30ins, 1hr, 2hr would make it perfect and then warrant the 5 starts probably (as long as it still proves reliable). Hope that the above is helpful... there's not much about countdown-timers that I haven't got some "tried and tested" knowledge of!

Peace of mind
What a great little gadget, so easy to use straight out the box with no complicated instructions. I bought this as I am always worried that I've left my straighteners on when I've left the house to go to work or out for the day - it even ruined one shopping trip as I was convinced I'd left them on and had to hurry home to check. Now I can relax in the knowledge that if I have left them on then this will switch them off after 30 minutes. Real peace of mind. I am so happy with it that I have recommended it to my sister and niece.

Neat, useful and money-saving
These timers are so useful for any electrical item that you may forget to switch off. Easy to use and ultimately save money and eliminate risk. They are therefore handy for hair straighteners, irons etc A red light flashes on and off whilst the timer is conducting electricity which is useful as you can then push the on button for a further 30 minutes.

Good but broke - twice!
Worked well, but stopped working exactly 1 year and a week after purchase. Edit - I was sent a replacement, and here I am now in 2021 to say the the replacement has now failed in exactly the same way, 1 year and 4 weeks later 🤦♂️
