Kinda cute with great emotional characters
When i first read this book i was beyond excited as i came across it on bookstagram and excitedly started readingand loved the story, though they was lack ofmain character interaction and more of FMC's thoughts and what she wants to do. Plus i really likedhow this was a sweet and emotional with relatable with every student, about experience what we go through in schools and acceptance, to stick with a belonging of sorts. How all the other characters were great with their own flaws.

Made Me Cry
This book had everything. It made me laugh. It made me cry. And after years I think, I was literally shipping two characters so hard and wanting to scream just kiss already. This book is a quick lighthearted read but managed to deal with so many issues. And the concept was very unique. The characters were complicated and very well written. Absolutely loved it. Would have loved an epilogue though

this book was honestly SUCH a pleasant surprise 😭🫶 I picked up If You Could See the Sun expecting a cute academic rivals story with a fun fantasy twist, but it ended up being way more emotional and thoughtful than I expected. I got attached to this book so fast. First of all, the chemistry between Alice and Henry??? SO good. Their banter felt natural, their dynamic was genuinely entertaining, and I loved how they slowly started understanding each other beyond their first impressions. Henry especially had me smiling every time he appeared 😭 Their relationship felt soft, complicated, competitive, and comforting all at once. I also really loved how the book handled consequences. Even though the invisibility concept was fun and magical, the story never made Alice’s actions feel completely harmless. You could really see the pressure she was under, the desperation behind her choices, and how every decision slowly spiraled into something bigger. It made the story feel more grounded emotionally instead of just being a cute fantasy romance. And the atmosphere of the elite international school setting was EVERYTHING to me. The academic pressure, social hierarchy, loneliness, ambition — it all felt so vivid. The book had this very quiet emotional depth underneath the romance that I wasn’t expecting at all. My only complaint is that I genuinely wanted MORE romance 😭 Like the chemistry was THERE, the tension was THERE, the emotional moments were THERE… and I just needed a little more of them together. I finished the book still craving extra scenes because I loved their dynamic so much. Overall this book felt clever, emotional, comforting, and surprisingly heartfelt. It’s one of those stories that feels light and easy to read at first, but then suddenly hits you with themes about identity, pressure, privilege, and self-worth when you least expect it. cute, emotional, slightly chaotic, and somehow made me feel lonely in the prettiest way possible 😭

A striking speculative YA debut!
“If You Could See the Sun” follows Alice Sun, a scholarship student at an elite Beijing international school, after she monetizes her invisibility powers by working with her academic rival Henry Li to steal and sell her classmates’ secrets. Liang’s debut is a thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be seen and the role class plays in affording one opportunities to leave a mark. Alice’s ability to turn invisible serves as a deeper metaphor for her lack of power and voice in navigating her elite boarding school, where she is marginalized by her affluent classmates for her lower socioeconomic status. What she initially perceives to be a curse helps her step into herself and learn what she wants out of life. I loved watching Alice, the type-A straight-A student, come to the realization that money, good grades, glory, and recognition aren’t everything. That what we are most passionate about, even if it isn’t necessarily practical, is worth wanting. At the same time, Liang does acknowledge that reputation and the right connections do hold weight, but we can only control what is in our control. I truly saw so much of myself in Alice and her journey of self-discovery, which just goes to show that as much as we feel alone, there are other people who likely feel the same way. Liang executes the academic rivals to lovers trope flawlessly! I love how Alice and Henry’s reluctant partnership forces them to work together for once instead of against each other. The chemistry that develops between them practically leaps off the page! Henry is the first to truly SEE Alice and I couldn’t help but swoon as she gave in to the pull. This book is definitely a top-favorite of mine and showcases how wonderful a storyteller Liang is.
