Bodum COLUMBIA Insulated French Press Coffee Maker, 1L / 8 Cup Double-Wall Shiny Chrome, Stainless-Steel Cafetière with Reusable Filter, Dishwasher Safe, 1308-16

I bought this as a replacement for an inferior brand of insulated cafetiere. The other one (Judge) had a spring above the edge of the wire filter mesh that gave out on first use on plunging. This lovely jug has a silicone rubber ring instead of the spring -flush with the mesh- so that there is a good seal all around the mesh. It works very well -take care not to use too much force. The seal is so good that you could cause pressure damage if too enthusiastic on plunging. The insulation works fairly well, and it keeps my Saturday morning coffee lake hot for an hour of reading the papers -unlike the glass version I also own and use when it will all get poured quickly. I love coffee, and can easily drink a litre all on my own in a morning. This is perfect for keeping it drinkable. Another review mentions an air leak after putting it in the dishwasher. I'd advise against putting it in in the first place. I have to say the info leaflet in the box was about glass cafetieres and not this one, so there was no info about dishwashing durability. Wash it by hand -and take care to wash it on its own as the highly polished surface (very beautiful to look at) scratches easily. Aesthetically this is a graceful and pleasing object -I like it for that as much as its functionality in making coffee well. I have a feeling that if I look after this, it will look after me. Highly recommended. AA UPDATE APRIL 2011 Tragedy... I carelessly dropped my lovely cafetiere. It actually bounced off the hard kitchen floor and now has a dent just off centre on the front. :- However it still works fine and there are no cracks on seams or air leaks -so this does seem very well made. Glass would certainly not have survived. Well I now have a limited edition of one -my very own customised "distressed" Bodum cafetiere. Not as distressed as I was, but my penultimate comment in the original review was borne out -it is looking after me (even if I let it down). Advice -don't bounce your Bodum. Amaaaaaazing! Initially I balked at the price - who pays that much for a single serving coffee press?! However, the pull for me was that it goes in the dishwasher - All of my other ones shattered in the dishwasher (despite being supposedly dishwasher-safe). After breaking 4 of the cheap ones (2 to the dishwasher, one to slippery soapy hands, and one to the cat knocking it off the table), I decided to splurge on this one, and I am in love. All the parts survive the dishwasher with ease, it's not got loads of different crevices so it's really easy to clean, and the filter thing on the inside is sturdy and doesn't warp so that it no longer strains the grounds, nor does it have little sharp bits like my old ones that get caught in the sponge if I do choose to hand-wash it. Plus, the whole thing looks nice as well. I may have to buy another one for work, and a bigger one for guests!

If you use a French press daily like me, you will eventually come to the conclusion that glass is not the way forward. That’s because whether it’s a quality Bodum one or a cheap supermarket equivalent, they break very easily. Whether you just slightly tap them, knock them, put them in the dishwasher or even just pouring hot water into them they eventually crack after a few months. This Bodum stainless steel is a perfect alternative. Firstly it looks great with its curved design. The lid and filter are not stainless steel but rather than being a cost saver, I think the filter with its silicon edge and plastic mesh works better than a stainless steel filter. No grains of coffee in the bottom of your cup with this French press. Also if you are worried about a metallic taste like I was, be assured that there isn’t one. Besides if you are boiling your water in a stainless steel kettle it will make no difference anyway. If you can get this on special offer like I did, grab it immediately it’s fantastic. Even at full price I would thoroughly recommend. For 2 large mugs of coffee you need the 1 litre size.

1. The stainless steel non matte version is extremely scratch prone. So, enjoy how it looks when you take it out of the box then forget what it looked like when you took it out the box. 1.5 it's a nicely constructed press. The only let down is the lid which feels/is cheaper. There was a better way and they opted for shiny plastic...not ideal. 2. Flavour-wise...I use a one cup bodum french press and an aeropress and am pretty consistent/confident with both. Scaling more coffee+more water from the one cup to this didn't work well. I got some very strange flavours out of it. I played around with grind coarseness and that has helped. Just keep an eye out. 3. Coffee stays warm a good amount of time. Let down by the aforementioned lid. Sum: decent product. Worth it when on sale. I wouldn't fork over full asking.

Arrived promptly despite the pre Christmas rush and adverse weather. It's a pleasure to use this pot. It holds one decent mug full. I usually use it as a tea pot with loose tea. Works a treat like this. Nice and heavy and keeps it hot for as long as I would want, say 5 - 10 minutes while eating my breakfast. Ordinary pot had lost its heat by then. You can pick it up by the body quite comfortably after this time without discomfort. It has the feel of a quality item.

This was a present for my son who is very fussy about the look of his kitchen equipment. It's very easy to clean and makes excellent coffee. Whether it really keeps the contents warmer than other pots I don't know, the metal must absorb a lot of heat from the coffee. However if you heat the pot with boiling water before use it would definitely help. Anyway he seems very happy with his present.

I bought this one because the cleaner in the house was always breaking the glass from my previous french press. It's not only stronger but beautifully designed! It keeps the coffee hot for a while -which is a bonus! If you are 2 better chose a bigger size -it works for me but I actually think I would have prefer buying a bigger one to save time preparing my second cup (as it keeps it warm anyway!). I now use it in the office and everybody is always asking where did I buy it because it looks really nice.

I was sick and tired of my glass cafetieres perennially breaking either through my own actions or acts of God (such as cats being caught sneaking around my windowsill and in their terror smashing not just the cafetiere but every dish that had been put on the sideboard to dry) so I decided to go the nuclear route and get a metal cafetiere that would only break if it fell in lava. This is a little pricey but after using it a few weeks I can safely say it was worth every penny. Why spend £10 or £20 on a glass one that can break at any moment? How much is peace of mind worth to you? Although I've not dropped it yet, I can say it feels robustly constructed although I am a little concerned about the silicone filter which I'm sure one day will need replacing. After 2 hours, provided the lid is turned to "off" the coffee remains as warm as if it were freshly brewed. A caveat when making coffee, don't use boiling water fresh from the kettle because the grounds will continue to cook and thus may leave an acrid aftertaste after a while. When prepared properly, the coffee I've brewed in this beautifully machined hunk of metal seems to have a superiour flavour to coffee brewed in glass or traditional filter coffee machines.

Antes usava prensa de vidro, mas como meu gato quebrou comprei essa de inox que pelo menos suporta quedas. Fiquei impressionado pela beleza e qualidade de construção, e até senti meus cafés mais equilibrados por ter o silicone em volta da malha, não permitindo nenhum pó passar pelas laterais.

Hatte vorher schon mehrere Glaskannen von Bodum, zuletzt die Kenya (die mir am besten gefiel, weil das Design schlicht ist, der Kunststoff einen gewissen Schutz für das Glas bietet, und man Kaffeereste, trockenflecken und dergleichen nicht so sieht wie bei verchromten Modellen). Leider ging mal wieder das Glas kapuutt, und da das Ersatzglas so viel kosten sollte wie eine neue Kanne, war ich es leid. Also unzerbrechlicher Stahl. Leider konnte ich bis auf ein italienisches Modell keine Edelstahlkkannen finden, die noch in Europa gefertigt werden (im Gegensatz zu den Glaskannen von Bodum). Das ist auch der einzige Wermutstropfen bei der Columbia - obgleich nirgends auf der Verpackung vermerkt, wird die Columbia laut mehreren Quellen in China produziert (laut Bodum Website "nicht in Europa"). Die Columbia ist für mich die beste Kanne bisher: - unzerbrechlich - keine echte Thermoskanne, aber eine halb- bis ganz volle Kanne bleibt schon 1-2 Stunden richtig heiß, das reicht und ist viel besser als bei den Glaskannen - innen und außen sehr leicht zu reinigen - keine Winkel und Ecken, in denen sich Verschmutzungen ablagern - auch der einteilige Stempel ist deutlich leichter zu reinigen als bei den Glaskannen (da setzt sich Kaffeesatz zwischen den einzelnen Stempelteilen ab), einfach nur kurz unter Wasser abspülen, fertig - zum Thema Kunststoff: auch bei der Kenya hat sich das nie als Geschmacksproblem bemerkbar gemacht. Das Innenteil des Deckels der Columbia ist aus dem gleichen geschmacksneutralen und haltbaren Kunststoff wie bei der Kenya gefertigt. Die Konterschraube am Stempel ist bei anderen Kannen aus Kunststoff, das scheint mir eine potentielle Schwachstelle zu sein - bei der Columbia ist diese aus Edelstahl Heute würde ich die Kanne in der 1,5l-Version kaufen - bei unserem Konsum ist der eine Liter doch wenig (habe aber nachgemessen, es ist tatsächlich 1l.

Bodum is THE way to go in coffee presses and after breaking 3 other glass presses we've gotten this item and haven't looked back since. It's keep the coffee hot for several hours. Stainless steel for easy cleaning and looks nice over time. It is a bit pricey over other presses but it is also that much better. This model holds 1 liter..enough for 3 tall cups of coffee. We have the smaller one that does 1 12 oz cup as well but usually we use this one.

Mucho dinero y tiempo invertido buscando diferentes modelos de cafeteras electricas, nuevas funcionan bien, con el paso de los meses van perdiendo potencia para calentar el agua y algo pasa que el cafe deje de sorprenderte. Tengo con esta cafetera desde hace por lo menos 6 meses, todos los dias me sorprende. logro distinguir nuevos sabores en mi cafe matutino. tan buena es, que ya tengo por costumbre el cafe despues de comida. No puedes dejar de tenerla si disfrutas tomar cafe.
