The circle part fits perfectly into the press so there is no waste out the top (I had that problem with my old one that was an oxo off brand and it broke after many good years .... ). This is the best garlic press I have used, it even fits more garlic then I am used to. Used the press about 5 times and it was great, but today the press had enough. This kind of metal fatigue seen in the picture is a direct cause of using a poor or contaminated metal alloy. Also, some rust can be seen in the joint rivets. I've tried several times with ginger and each time it seems to just juice the root and leave the rest of it in the press. This means I have to scrape it out of the press and dice it up like I would have done without the press.As for durability, I can feel the press flex quite a bit while squeezing the handles. I wonder how many uses I'm going to get out of it before something bends or breaks. From its appearance in the photos, I thought it might have been solidly constructed.
