Some friends showed up to a camp-out with one of these fire pits. We were in a place where open fires were prohibited, and I thought it was cheesy. Then they fired it up and we gathered around it and late into the night. Bliss! Not having waves of smoke hitting you in the face is worth the price of admission! Not smelling like smoke when you finally retire to bed and for the rest of your trip makes it a real value! A single propane tank, which takes as much space as a single bundle of wood, will burn 10x as long for a fraction of the price and emit no carbon in the atmosphere. No risk of embers burning holes in your clothes and chairs or setting the forest on fire, and when you are ready to go to bed, you don't have to worry about finding enough water to fully extinguish the fire. Just turn the knob and go to bed. The lava rocks are incredibly light, so you can arrange them how you like, put the lid and carry strap on it, and lug it around with one arm. It takes about 10 minutes for the rocks to heat up, so initially it doesn't feel like the propane flames put out that much heat. But once the rocks are heated, it puts out plenty of heat for 4 or 5 people to enjoy. You can huddle in closely to it and stay in that one spot, because the fire intensity doesn't change unless you want it to, and you don't have to constantly be relocating your chair to avoid the smoke. It takes about 10 or 15 minutes to cool down once you've turned it off, and then you can pack it away. You can cook marshmallows and hotdogs on sticks, but I wouldn't recommend making a mess of it with anything greasy. It's a nice looking stove that sits low to the ground. The innovative propane piping in this unit disperses the flame evenly, so the flames look nice and natural. Cheaper units that have a single metal ring don't look nearly as nice. It's worth the extra money to get this one. We bought the fully-enclosed carry tote for it, which protects it in the trailer and keeps fire dust from getting all over our other gear when transporting, and it was worth the extra investment. We put it out on our front patio at sunset, set up some chairs right outside our daughter's bedroom window where she hides out with the phone glued to her face. She actually put down her phone, came outside in the cold, and spent 2 hours just visiting with us. A good social fire circle is one of the only things that can break the social media spell that's destroying the world.

This is a review for the Outland 863 Cypress portable outdoor firebowl. I bought this for RV camping, to give up on the mess and hassle of firewood. There is so much more to gain than just the tradeoff in weight and bulk of bringing (taboo) firewood. The social gathering and meal around the evening fire is just such a tradition and pinnacle important aspect of camping. Burning gas seemed at first like such sacrilege! I will admit I was stubborn at first, with a heavy bias for the tradition of burning wood fires for so long. But with age comes wisdom. I am now a believer. PRO’s: This model is a very low profile design. It looks great and plenty of heat. There is no smoke. Way more convenient than wood fires. Takes up less space than with wood. Portability- not a “fixed” fire pit. No axe, shovel, paper, kindling, or fire-starters needed. Less mess- nothing to sweep, clean up, or ashes to empty. Instant gratification- Light it, and the fire is ready Enjoy a fire even when it rains -underneath the side awning of the RV, or a pop-up or whatever. Safer. Less risk of starting a forest fire. (Smokey is dancing the jig!) Turn it off and go to bed- no more worries about leaving a fire burning overnight, or when you leave campsite. More environmentally friendly than burning wood (less carbon). …and if you still want to burn a wood fire also, Hey! There’s nothing stopping you from still doing that too! The Cypress 21 Firebowl won’t get jealous! Cons: (Not really cons- but rather my additional comments) • Propane costs money. I have a nearly unlimited supply of firewood available to me. (Not the firebowls fault.) • I wish the hose was little longer. I use an extension hose with quick couplers. (Optional- see below) • As-built, the firebowl hose with regulator is only designed to connect to an independent propane tank. For my use, I put together another hose kit with quick couplers for the option to run off my RV propane supply line (for a bbq) as well. (optional- See below) • It’s not a fire that is meant/rated to cook over -although nothing is stopping you from roasting marshmallows or whatever. It would seem this could be rated, designed and meet the additional criteria as a cooking appliance as well with minimal agency approval (CSA/AM Z21.58). I think the manufacture has opportunities for additional accessories: cooking grates, griddles, roasting skewers, rotisseries, etc. (recommendation) I am the one that asked the question (in the question section above) what the PSI of the regulator is. I wanted to run off the gas line on my RV. I received the answer directly from customer service FMI Brands Inc.: The hose inlet connection is the standard QCC-POL type connection for 20#LP cylinders and the LP gas regulator is low-pressure 2.74kPA (11"WC). Our LP gas hose has a 5/8-18UNF threaded female outlet coupling (connection to Firebowl gas valve). The Outland Living Firebowls are CSA Approved to be used with the hose and regulator provided with our units as we have tested and certified this product using the low-pressure regulator. The regulator cannot be disconnected from the hose as it is one piece, however, the hose with the regulator can be removed from the Firebowl unit. To do so, remove the black shrink surrounding the coupling of the Firebowl gas valve connected to the hose and then proceed to untighten this connection. We do not have a quick-connect option at this time, however, if you are interested in this modification, we highly recommend reaching out to a professional gas fitter or propane technician to ensure the safety standards are met for this modification. The first 2 parts in this list will be used to attach the male part of the quick coupler on the firebowl itself. Use the 3/8” Female Flare X ¼” Male Pipe fitting to attach the female part of the quick coupler to the supplied Outland Firebowl hose. Use the thread sealant or tape only on the pipe threads- not on the flare fittings! Tighten and check for leaks. You will likely need to use the 12’ extension hose between the firebowl and an RV depending on the how long your RV gas hose is. It will even come in handy if running off a propane cylinder as well. I hope this review helps others. Not only with additional information, but confidence this is the right fire bowl for you.

With the west coast being really dry this year, i bought a gas firepit for camping just incase of fire restrictions. The pit itself is really nice. The only thing i can knock about it is, the lava rocks put out a lot of dust and the design in the side of the pit allows the dust to fall out while its being transported. To fix this, I bought a travel bag for it. They are about $25 but it keeps the dust off everything. It does come with a lid and a carry strap for the pit which holds really good. It does not have an igniter so you have to light it with matches or a long lighter. It gets pretty warm but burns propane up fairly quick, even with a 20lb. Tank. Even with all this said, i still think this is a well built good product and should last a long time

If you’re trying to decide between the 5 different Outland Living fire pits that all look the same then I can tell you the Cypress is the one to get. Firstly, it is the only model that has the Helios Burner and with extra Lava Rocks. This combination really does make a difference and will give you a roaring fire just like the pictures.... really! It is also low profile, only 9” tall which means the heat cone is closer to the ground like a real fire and thus is much more effective, heating all the way to your toes and in a bigger area. The unit is very well made, sturdy, comes pre-assembled and ready to go. Fire within 5 mins of opening the box. There is also a lid that keeps the rain out and a clip on carry strap making easy to move around. Sturdy 10’ hose means the propane tank goes out of sight. If you want a great quality and effective fire pit to give you an instant roaring fire to sit outside on chilly evenings, the Cypress will be hard to beat.

We saw one of these at a family visit loved the product and the ambience, could not wait to get our firebowl, ordered same evening. Supplier was excellent we had a small issue that was resolved extremely quickly, supplier answered immediately, very responsive and supportive, could not have been more helpful, service provided was absolutely excellent. Arrived ahead of schedule. Was easy to assemble. Good instructions were included ( maybe not for the carrying strap usage). Easy warranty registration. Looks good and is aesthetically pleasing. Have set up and used the fire bowl several times now with good results. Nice flame and easy operation. The unit came with a carrying strap and a lid which was nice for keeping the weather out. Unfortunately the carrying strap didn't work for me with the lid on. Had a mishap or two while trying to carry the unit with the lid on as the strap slipped off and things came crashing down. Eventually, I figured out that the elasticized carrying strap hooks latch in to cut outs on the base of the unit. Once securely attached the strap secures the lid in place and makes carrying the firebowl around safe and easy. Well engineered; just took me a bit of time to understand proper usage. Overall, I am very pleased with the looks and operation of my Outland Cypress Firebowl.
