How does this unit connect to the tv as my tv is older and does not have a usb connection.

It connects to the TV via a scart lead. The usb slot is for using a usb card for recording TV programmes. You can also record programmes onto a SD card.

Do you need a tv aerial , to get all the free channels?

Yes, a good digital type the better, e.g one of the One for All from: https://www.oneforall.co.uk/tv-aerials#/ or from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=one+for+all+indoor+tv+aerial&i=electronics&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 and select a One for All unit that suits your arrangement and location. If you use an outdoor analogue one then you also need a good one, correctly aligned, but both types need few but good connections.

What sd card should I purchase for this box .Want to store a few films then play on another media player with memory card slot

A pity the listing doesn't specify this (and no manual to be found online, it seems). After searching through all the questions (none answering specifically) I would deduce from looking at the illustration of the product that a "Standard" size SD Card is required (if you want to record). (I have deduced this by comparing the width of the SD Card shown, as compared to the top edge of the SCART socket -- which is 46mm width. The SD Card appears to be slightly wider than the top edge of the SCART, so must be a Standard size, which is 24mm. (Next size down is Mini, which is 20mm wide (Micro is 11mm wide) -- so Mini SD would be significantly narrower than half of the SCART top edge.))

How do I replay a recorded programme

Go to list button, it will show your recordings on the remote press press the centre button a small picture will show, on top right corner, now press red sos button for full screen. Hope this helps.
