Good Brand, Bad Packaging
I really like Mahle and the filter fit nicely on my E39. The really bad part was that there was no cushioning in the packaging and it was just tossed in the box with only one grommet cap on one side of the filter. I knew I was taking a risk to install it and have things still work properly afterwards.

OEM Replacement
Just installed this on my 1998 328i. The installation was kind of a b*tch, but this product looks and functions identical to the OEM filter. No need to bleed the pump or anything like that prior to installation. Just disconnect the lines on either side and have something ready to catch a little gas. I lost probably less than a quart (with the front on ramps). Your next couple starts will take a little more cranking but after that smooth sailing.

2000 528i BMW base
Fairly simple change - after watching a few videos on youtube it was a straight forward process There are DIFFERENT filters depending on the model. I would highly recommend doing this if you purchased your car used. My car had been serviced by a local BMW shop by the previous owner who claimed and had receipts for 10 yrs of service. Unfortunately a lot of the work had not been completed including this.. I replaced the original filter from 07/07/00! 110k miles on the car with a 16 yr old fuel filter. Poor car.. lol I'd recommend getting the car high enough for good clearance the cover has several screws and bolts - the filter is tucked into an area that is small in my opinion. A little tricky getting both hands on the lines to remove, but not too bad. Good Luck!

Big Improvement!
Changed original fuel filter on 96 bmw 328i. Made huge difference in gas flow, idling, and easier acceleration. Not sure on improved mpg but confident it is favorable. Definitely positive difference.
