Position Pieces for Cello

Fun book to work on

This book has been very useful to brush up on my position work and to become more secure in my positioning and that improves my confidence. It starts simple and then you work your way up.

Easy to follow

As a music teacher (but not of cello!) I really appreciate how well the book has been thought through with introductory exercises for each new position followed by attractive arrangements and compositions, all with an optional accompaniment for a second (teacher-level) cellist. This is not a beginners book and for secondary pupils and adults rather than (most) youngsters; you would need to be pretty confident in hitting the first position notes accurately and also comfortable with your bowing to enable you to concentrate on learning the higher positions. It's challenging; I'm having to spend quite a lot of time on some of the pieces to do them justice but my playing improves in direct proportion to how much I use this book.

As an adult returning to the cello after a long gap... These little drills are lovely for helping with cello geography... Short and sweet, brilliant for sightreading practice and love the concept of the target note... Very handy book in the cello begs repertoire. Nice that each one has a cello duet part... Very musical when played at your lesson with a teacher.

Great book helping me...as a lapsed cellist of 32 years...to understand positioning!

Very happy with this position book. The exercises in it are very helpful to get my head around which finger to use for which note in which position, which forms an important base to play more advanced pieces in tune.

Good book with simple melodies which require focus on good fingering. Must be able to play in first position with ease before trying. It would be nice if it had a few more melodies per position.

Love it, love it, love it. Learning shifting and positions in other books is sooooo boooooring. This book makes it enjoyable. Fun fact : you learn a lot faster when you actually practice, and you practice a lot more when practice is something fun you actually look forward to do every day...

My cello teacher recommended this book but I couldn't find it in my local music stores. Very helpful studies.

チェロで中級に向けて習得しなければいけないものの一つに、左手のポジション移動がある。これがなかなか難しい。音符と指を照合させることと、何の目印もない所にあたりを付けて押さえることの、両方ができなければいけない。結局、練習に次ぐ練習しかないのだが、この本はそのワークブックとしてなかなか良い。 また、第2ポジションとか第3ポジションとか言われる指使いのなかで、イレギュラーな指使いも、「これも第2（第3）ポジションです」などと言われて混乱させられるが、本書では、そんな指使いについて命名され、結果的にハーフポジションから第4ポジションまで、半音ずれるごとに名前付きで理解でき、すっきりした気持ちで練習できる。

È un testo abbastanza avanzato come livello non per principianti. Scritto in inglese ma comunque semplice e intuitivo ha indicate le note delle diverse posizioni e poi una serie di pezzi per esercitarsi con diteggiatura. Utile per studenti di livello intermedio per andare oltre la prima posizione. Non è un metodo non ci sono spiegazioni su come avanzare di posizione ma spartiti e schemi delle note che si prendono per ogni posizione.
