The stapler comes with a compartment to store the replacement punches and base plates. I would have expected the punch to come with at least one lot of spares but you have to buy these separately. These are relatively inexpensive but it is slightly annoying that a hole punch of this price does not come with a few quids worth of spares. Just under half a centimetre, I estimate. **Q: How far away from the edge of the paper does this punch?** A: A standard distance - approx. 11.5 mm in from the edge of the paper. I forgot to add " .........11.5 mm to the centre-line of the hole". **Q: Does it take A3 paper?** A: No it doesn’t. It punches A4 and the slightly over-sized A4 exercise books you can buy. But nothing bigger.
