Figure It Out! Human Proportions: Draw the Head and Figure Right Every Time (Christopher Hart Figure It Out!)

I've been looking for a book like this for a long time and it explains everything I've wanted to know in simple terms and backed up by lots of diagrams. This book is NOT an anatomy book, it is a book about proportions, how different parts, lengths, sizes of the body relate to each other so that the completed figure looks right from any angle. After my first read through I had learnt quite a few new tips and tricks I could apply straight away to improve my figure drawing. An excellent book, highly recommended.

This book is really nice! I hesitant on buying another book on proportions as they usually fall short. This one however was really helpful with clear instructions and alot of good tips. It can either teach you the basics of proportions if you are new to drawing, but it also gives more experienced artists new tools to check and correct their proportions. The layout of the book is also very nice. I would recommend this to any one!

I'd forgotten all about this book it's taken so long to arrive! I was wondering at my age whether I'd ever see it. The book is as expected but I ordered this on the 5th of February and it's just arrived the 22nd February. It was a snail that delivered it, the package was strapped to it's shell. It had express deliveries written on the shell but very badly in feltpen. I would not recommend using this supplier if your in anyway expecting a reasonable delivery time.

Simple, clear concise step by step break downs of each part of the body and excellent resource to have in your collection

Bought for my daughter to use to help her with proportioning figures. She is studying Animation at University & is finding this a really comprehensive resource & guide to getting the character designs she is working on looking right before she starts to construct them in 3D. Excellent book, brilliant images & instruction. She us delighted with it. Would definitely recommend!

Chris Hart is a master of explaining complicated processes in a simple way that anyone can understand. The book covers all of the human form. Male, female, young and old. I personally study comic drawing and always thought my proportions were "about right" but this book has opened my eyes to how wrong I was. Brilliantly explained, beautifully illustrated and a must have for any budding or professional artist.

Easy to follow with good illustrations. A really good working addition to my books on art.

A really helpful book with clear directions on how to draw people at various angles. Each chapter focuses on a different part of the body looking in different ways. A book not bogged down with lengthy text.

I see some relatively negative review on this book and I can say that if you look at the title it’s exactly what you get. This give you the basics needed to draw human correctly. This is not going in deep anatomy details but just what you need to go — I recommend this book

If you are struggling to find errors in the figure you draw, this might be a great book to figure out where the problem may be found in your drawing. It has a couple of hands-on drawing assignments but the really useful content are the reference drawings and explanations.

Though it is not anatomy book, you can learn human body proportion perfectly. And by practicing this proportions you will gradually understand the anatomy. The lesson are perfectly distributed and easy to learn tips and tricks.

I've read a lot of books on drawing and this is great if you are looking for a guide to sketching people (as opposed to figure drawing, which is far more detailed.) I enjoy sketching, quick drawings that capture the feel of the scene, and wanted to include people, but had issues with proportion - no longer. This book allowed me to make rapid progress in this regard. It covers all the parts of people as well as the whole person in a way that makes it easy to look at a person and then draw them. It does not go into great detail on how to make photo-realistic drawings, rather it discusses the basic idea behind proportion of faces, hands, feet, whole bodies, etc. I particularly liked how the first third (or half!) of the book was not committed to materials, like many art instruction books. If you have one of that type of book you don't need any more, yet almost every publisher appears to start off with a huge chunk of pages on that topic in ~every~ book they publish - this book does not suffer from that annoying feature. Lots of illustrations and text - a good balance of describing the ideas behind the techniques and examples of how to implement them. This is not one of those "Three easy steps to painting the Mona Lisa for Non-Painters" books. The author shows steps in enough detail that I had no issues following what they were suggesting. I liked this book well enough to get another book by the same author (Figure it out! The Beginners Guide to Drawing People) which is also a great book with the same approach to solid content and lack of fluffy copy-and-paste filler.
