Superb little hand-warmer
Like @matt says in his review, you're probably thinking of buying this and wondering if it's as good as the Zippo or Whitby ones? Well I can't comment on those but as a confirmed cheapskate, I did buy his one and have to say I'm very impressed.I've got rubbish peripheral blood supply so when I'm out shooting in the winter, my hands get numb. This little thing has made it so much more comfortable. I keep it in a jacket pocket and then hold it in my gloved hands when I can.Plus points:It's cheap! Cheaper than a replacement zippo catalyst. It works and seems to be fairly well made.Minus points:The catalyst section doesn't grip the main body very tightly. A quick crimp with a pair of pliers should sort that out though. It's not what I'd call easy to light but that may be common to all these type of warmers. A drop or two of lighter fluid on the catalyst works well.Like Matt says, the little red toggle on the bag strings is next to useless; it doesn't hold the cords closed and so the warmer can fall out of the bag - this will increase the rate of burn (more oxygen) and it can get quite hot!! Find another means of holding the bag closed such as a simple knot, a plastic bag clip or a better toggle. This shouldn't put you off though - for the price it can't be beaten.

Does what it says on the tin
Works really well but I think it could be inferior build quality to Zippo, but what do you expect for £5 👍Comes with a bag and a container for measuring lighter fluid (lighter fluid not included)The heat that comes of this thing is pretty immense once it gets going, I was unable to hold the bare metal at full temp, definitely needs to be contained in the bag supplied. This will definitely keep me warm watching the mighty Chelsea play on cold winter evenings 👍 I’m thinking that I’ll keep it in my inside pocket so that it radiates warmth to my core**update - worked a treat. Although I had already lighted it once at the weekend before using it in a real world scenario and I found that it lit much easier after giving it a first time burn. Perhaps it was me feeling more confident with it, or it just needed the initial burn to ease things along I don’t know. Kept in the bag, inside pocket of my coat and boom, lovely and toasty. At one point I had to undress a bit as I got a bit too warm! All in all happy. Quality is still slightly under par, but it was £5, so not complaining. One piece of advice before I sign off... fill it up just before you use it. I filled mine a couple of days before and the smell of lighter fluid was strong. It’s not like a Zippo lighter, it’s ‘open’ all the time**

Not as good as Zippo one
I lost my Zippo one and bought this as a replacement. the top tends to come off even when it's in the bag the finish isn't as good as the Zippo version either, with rough edges where the holes are

How does it compare to Zippo? Quite well actually.
So if you're reading this you're probably trying to decide if you should give this cheap hand warmer a punt or spend a bit more (about three times as much) for the official zippo. Well, I've had the pleasure of using both and I would save my money every time and go for this one.Don't get me wrong, there are definitely a few quality issues here, but the function and heat output are the same, I definitely wouldn't spend the high price tag of the Zippo. In fact, you could do what I did and buy two of these plus some lighter fluid for less than a single Zippo hand warmer. The instructions are vague but basically, you remove the cap and the small bit under that which is a catalytic burner. You then fill the warmer by pouring in lighter fuel using the supplied measure. Replace the catalytic burner and then light with a lighter. You know when it's lit because you can take the lighter away and parts of the catalytic burner continue to glow red. Replace the cap and then slide it into the bag. The bag helps the burner maintain a high enough temperature to not go out and also acts as a barrier so you don't burn yourself on the metal which can get quite hot.So what are the quality issues? For me the catalytic burner seems to pop off every time I remove the cap, sometimes getting a little stuck in the cap. The other issue is the little pouch which is impossible to tighten with the toggle, it could probably be easily modded to work well though. There are no such issues with the zippo but these are more minor annoyances than major issues so I'm happy to live with them for the cost saving.I would, however, recommend zippo lighter fluid, which seems to burn with less odour than some other brands. The zippo odour is very faint and would easily be unnoticed outdoors. If you found this review helpful, please hit the 'Helpful' button to let me know that writing these reviews is worthwhile.
