Will 18 volt battery work in 20 volt tool?

As long as it is the new slide on type battery an 18v xr battery will fit i have actualy worked with one on a 20 v drywall gun and a 20 v impact drill no problem

Does the trigger lock so you can run it automatically?

Yes it does, when using the bigger 5.0 and 4.0 batteries we do lock it back, if on the small batteries we don't so much, but good life on the bigger ones, at least half a day if you release the trigger when not using it.
