Has anyone used this bag as a personal item in a flight, in addition to the carry on? or is it considered a carry on by airlines?

I used this bag as a carry on with two different airlines and once with an airline as a personal item, so both work!

Can I put shoes in a duffle bag? Will it stain my clothes?

The duffel bag can hold a pair of sneakers, and it has a separate shoe slot that won't stain any of your belongings.

Does the extra-large size also have separate shoe compartment?

Yes it’s a great bag. Also light weight.

Good quality? Okay for men?

Yes good quality and good for men
