Develop the skills to give your vehicleโs worn-out interior new life! Starting with a list of necessary tools, author Fred Mattson guides you through all the required tasks, including seat restoration; door panel removal, patterning, assembly, and installation; headliner removal and installation; carpet cutting; and even convertible top restoration. The easy-to-follow, step-by-step presentation allows for a thorough understanding of all the processes. Every photo provides a hands-on approach that shows you how to repair and restore a carโs interior to concours, show-quality specifications. After disassembling and gutting your car, it is easy to feel that you're in over your head when it comes to the upholstery. This is why so many do-it-yourself restorers outsource the work, at considerable expense, to an experienced upholstery shop. Taking the time to acquire the skills for upholstery restoration may feel like a daunting task, but what if an experienced upholsterer presented every skill you needed to restore upholstery yourself? Other restoration books may show you beautifully restored interiors, but they don't show you how to produce them. This book helps you learn the skills needed with instruction from a professional upholsterer, saving you thousands of dollars over outsourcing the restoration. If you are interested in saving money, doing a complete restoration yourself, or simply want to know how it's done, this book is a handy addition to your automotive library.

Detailed Coverage
The book covered all the major portion of auto upholstery restoration: seats, door panels, headliner, carpet and convertible top.The pictures are all in color and very clear. The instructions, at least the ones I referenced on seat upholstery, are clear and helpful. Two things I liked about the book were the chapter on tools and source guide. One may have a garage full of tools, but upholstery tools are not your typical Ace Hardware tools. Reading this section will, hopefully, avoid the part of the project that many have experienced where half way through the project it becomes apparent the right tool to finish is missing. The page on sources was also helpful but to a lesser extent. This book might well be the one and only reference one would need for a do-it-yourselfer.

Easy to follow, lots of great tips!
Great book! i would say that people should have SOME basic knowledge of stitching and sewing, but there are plenty of good books for that out there. As far as automotive upholstery goes, this is a great book.

I didn't find it useful.
I don't believe it's the best for a beginner, not enough detail in regards to sewing techniques.

My guy loved it...
Sent this to my man who is away. He said it was a good purchase and showed more things than he expected to find. He would recommend.

For cars from the 70s or earlier only
This book is for restoration of older cars only. It won't help you if you want to re-upholster seats in a newer car (say last 5 years). I bought it for car upholstery tips but was very limited use, hence 1 star review. Even the photos look like they were taken in the 70s and I think the description does not adequately outline the limitations of the book. Not ordered on prime so I took a chance when I bought it. Disappointed.
