Helpful tips on use
I was experiencing annoying draught (or draft) sensations in the home and found this. It's excellent for finding them and they were located in a few surprise areas - around window openings, pulley wheels on sash windows, and even the gap around the lock barrel on a patio door. Tip: get the refill as you'll soon use up the 3 sticks in your initial exploration. Also if you burn one too short and it gets trapped inside the pen - the base does actually pull/screw off the metal part. You need to unscrew it from the main pen (like removing the inner ink part from a biro) and you will be able to get the base off the metal part by pulling and unscrewing - it looks fixed but it isn't - and the end of the stick will just fall out. Note also that you secure lengths of stick by removing the metal inner from the pen and pushing the 'nib' against the spring which opens its jaws up. I found it helped to move around doors, windows and fireplaces slowly and when moving vertically, trace from top to bottom. You'll soon see a suck or blow effect on the smoke when you hit a draught - your task then is to fill it! I got some rubber seal kits off Amazon for windows and used things like blue/white tack for small gaps around key barrels. You won't be able to block every draught and you will always need some so your home doesn't fill with condensation - but if you can remove the worst offenders that should make you feel mort comfortable and bring down your heating bills! Easy to use and great value for money

Lots of smoke, which is good!
Lots of smoke, which did the trick to finding gaps in the fabric of our old house where the warm air was escaping. It's a little expensive if you're only using it a few times, but the price on Amazon is similar to the manufacturers website. The instructions say to put the wick into the tube, but don't be silly like me and realise that you can unscrew the top it which makes it far easier! It doesn't mention that in the instructions.

Smokes pens used for aspirating systems
Our engineers needed these and they did exactly what they wanted to do. We have used this product before so know the sort of quality was before we ordered them. Price was reasonable and we use them to test high level aspirating systems

Great for testing alarms
Bought this because we upgraded to linked alarms as per the scottish requirements. Heat alarm in the kitchen winks with a little red dot, but the smoke alarms are completely blank, and I was worried if they were actually working. Light this, blow it out, and wave it under an alarm, perfect proof the that things are doing what they're supposed to do, and you get a warm fuzzy feeling about safety that you don't get with just using the test button on the alarms themselves. Plus you get a small, clear, straight plume of smoke that's great for spotting draughts.

A useful tool
Bought this to detect draught points at doors and windows and it works well. It also enables you to check air circulation in a room, handy for checking extractor air flow etc. I've also used it to check the airflow in my computer desk cabinet and I've made changes that have improved the cooling. A useful piece of kit robust enough for the tool box or a pocket. Pleased I bought it.

Buono

Generates good white smoke to see leaks
I needed something to generate smoke so I could see leaks around the edges of my sump pit cover. I have a radon fan connected and wanted to identify any places where I missed with the caulking. The cover is clear Lexan so I could see the smoke get pulled in. This worked very well. The design is like a mechanical eraser, where you push the end to slide more out. However, with the hot end, when you get close to the smoking stick reaching the pen, you need to push the button and tap it to get more to slide out. Be sure to have something non-combustible for it to slide against to stop it from coming all the way out. You will have to advance more of the stick about every five minutes.
