Competent, small AM/FM travel radio with lots of SW bandspreads too
As too often happens, the review stream merges different (and some more expensive) models. So I'll clarify here to say I bought an XHDATA D219. It has all antilog controls and no frills and the underlying tuning is PLL, internally that's digitally managed so when tuning you notice the stepping effect. Bought this is for power outages in the UK and for travel where I want to tune into local FM/AM stations. Shortwave could be useful, maybe. This model takes 2 AA cells, I put in rechargeables and the radio is happy. For its low price point its a great little (tiny?) radio. Competent and sensitive/selective AM and FM reception and adequate build quality. I was nervous there would be a day 1 fault at this price, well, the tuning pointer is at a slight angle and the frequency indication is some way off. But it works nicely and isn't going back.

Great little portable emergency radio
This is a great palm-sized radio with excellent battery life, spoken word audio quality and the simplest of old-fashioned controls which work (no Bluetooth or digital radio). There is no digital display for tuning, but that is no problem if you mainly listen to one station. Reception is excellent with the telescopic aerial, the sound is clear and loud enough and the plastic construction is very light but stands up properly and seems perfectly robust enough for temporary or occasional use as a backup. For these purposes it is pretty much unbeatable at the amazing price.

Value for money overall
Good: - Decent reception and easy tuning (for FM at least, AM/SM didnt work very well in the city where i live) for the price thanks to the DSP based design, - Decent sound quality for headphone output and speaker, some may prefer a "fuller" sound (more bass), but I see it a taste of preference, the clarity for the price is good, IMO better sound quality than the best seller DAB+ radio on Amazon (around £25) Bad - As some reviewer mentioned, the volume knob is way too sensitive, it goes from silent to too loud in a very short rotation, technically serviceable but not very convenient to fine adjust the volume, if the radio is to have any hardware revision, the volume control is definitely top of the list Meh - Mono headphone output (you got sound from both sides of the earphone, but it is mono signal for FM) probably due to budget DSP limitation (the Silicon labs Si4825 DSP inside is limited to mono playback), a budget constraint compromise, but at this price i guess it is what it is, still better than cutting corners elsewhere.... - The kickstand could be better (with more adjustment to the angle), but it still beat nothing Verdict Not perfect, but overall a solid performer (especially for the price), you could get better if you spend more, but this little guy still fit the purpose well for those on a tight budget.

Impressive little radio
This is a cracking little radio! Really small size but big sound and so easy to use. Absolute bargain. We needed a small radio in our outside bar and this does the trick 100% percent. Takes 2x AA batteries. Well impressed.

Small but Good!
Tiny battery powered radio, easy to tune, very clear reception and good sound quality. I've only tried it out, not used it for any length of time, but so far I'm impressed! Recommended.

Very sensitive little radio for the price.
A brilliant highly receptive little radio. Better than some radios I’ve bought for more than 5 times the price. Ok, so it’s not got a digital display or digital tuning, or a memory function or an alarm clock but if you’re not bothered about those functions it more than makes up for it with its sensitivity especially in the 9 short wave bands. The backlight on mine was especially dim and I struggled to see the display in total darkness when camping but that wasn’t a big problem. A small candle lantern fixed that just for writing down the approximate frequencies for future reference. The speaker is more than adequate for personal use but I nearly always use in ear headphones for better clarity, privacy and to preserve battery lifespan. Takes 2 x AA batteries and will also run off a 5V usb input from a plug in mobile phone charger or power bank or suitably powerful solar charger during the day, but it will not charge re-chargeable batteries, but what do you expect for the price. I also recommend the purchase of a decent hard shell carry case for weather protection and to prevent tuning dial movement and it accidentally turning on and wasting the batteries.

What Amazing Sound From Something So Low Priced
Needed a carry anywhere radio that will take batteries, and not one of these rechargeable things that throw their hands in at the wrong time, and you can't just stick another couple of batteries in. Just received this radio, and put it through its paces. On FM, with small headphones, I was amazed at the sound quality. Waaaay beyond what I was expecting. All the usual FM stations in my area coming in loud and clear. AM picking up all the standard stations no problem. Ran it through the nine short wave bands using just the little telescopic antenna, and plenty of stations there, and I think with the addition of a wee extension wire attached it should pick up plenty more. Don't get too excited. You are never going to pick up Radio New Zealand on this in the UK, but there is potential for the major players to be heard. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for, but with this little radio selling for just a tenner, I absolutely do not think it could be beaten on the price stakes. I will mainly be listening to classical music on FM, with headphones, so the sound quality will be my best feature of this little beauty, not to mention that it is tiny, well built and has the feel of something costing a whole lot more, maybe even by one of the big companies. Totally well pleased with my purchase. Another bonus .... it happily takes rechargeable AA batteries too. Nowadays some kit, especially the small stuff like this, won't let the minimally larger rechargeable AA batteries fit in. In my opinion, you won't get a better little radio for the price, ...... or even for a larger price ! It's a litle cracker.

Radio D219.
Molto soddisfatto dell'acquisto. Obbiettivo raggiunto.
