The leeches can't get through them but they can climb up them and bore through your hiking trousers. Sprinkle them and your boots with powdered tobacco, it's a very effective deterrent (much better than sprays)

The product is no doubt excellent protection against leeches and perhaps deserving of 5 stars if you're a zoologist living in the Danum rain forest for weeks on end studying wildlife. The locals we met just wore football socks. I wore gaiters and seal waterproof socks; the combo worked well and proves more cost effective being more versatile. My fashion conscious wife didn't bother with any of it, and just flicked off the odd leech!
