Be careful to stop short of the quick, the blood vessel inside the nail. Use the safety stop to prevent trimming nails too short. If your pet's nails are very long, trim a small amount at a time. Review: My dog no longer hates having pedicures! - I wouldn’t normally review nail clippers, but this one is special. I have a miniature poodle who is now one. Since she was a puppy, she would show she was uncomfortable and didn’t love having her nails cut. I wondered if it was the clippers and so decided to give these ago. Honestly, it’s a whole different experience. The clippers seem sharper and so glide through the nail like butter. I can take little bits off at a time, and go slow enough so I avoid making a click sound when I cut through her nail. She no longer pulls her paw away, and has started to sleep while I do her nails. This obviously makes me think the old clippers were hurting her by perhaps putting pressure on her nail. These ones are much better in that sense. And from my own perspective, the handles feel nice and grippy. They feel sturdy to use. I like that it has a lock mechanism for safety, and do the job really well. If you’re looking for a good set of clippers for a small dog, go for these!
Review: A very good and sharp set of cutters. - I really like these cutters, unlike many I've used these were sharp straight out of the box, prior to this I've had ones that struggle to cut and required dismantling and sharpening, they've looked sharp but once you start the job proved to be a different story. It's no fun finding out whilst holding on to a big old labrador while he wonders what the hell you're doing to his feet. My dog is really old now and can't get around very well so his nails aren't wearing like they used to, I only used to ever have to cut his dew claws but now it's a full set, my old cutters always left a fair bit of filing to do and my dog hated that bit, these manage a somewhat cleaner cut and involve only minor filing, in some cases I've not had to file at all. They're comfortable in use and the cut limiter (which helps prevent you cutting to low) is handy as I'm always fearful of cutting too low. I'm no expert but all in all I'd happily recommend these cutters to those with larger dogs.

**Q: Are these clippers good for cats?**
A: These types of clippers are better for cats http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PG7WJ1A?psc=1. I bought these safari's for my cat and I think I had an issue with how her nails were turning out. So I bought ones like the amazon link I posted here from elsewhere.

**Q: Can I use it on a small cat?**
A: Absolutely NOT, it is huge, very difficult to use on small nails and make loud clicking sound, i am returning it

**Q: Has any one ever tried to use these on a bearded dragon? The nail structure and cuticles are similar to cats and dogs but much smaller.  Any thoughts?**
A: I don't have a bearded dragon, but I do have a blue tongued skink named Hank. I have a pair of these for my dogs. Don't use them for your lizard- they're too big and hard to precisely clip your little lizard's nails! 
I suggest finding one of those really smalls sets of cat nail clippers, or, I've found that nail clippers meant for people (particularly baby nail clippers) work best. Be careful not to cut the quick, (Use a flashlight under your lizard's nails to see it) and keep some cornstarch nearby to clot the wound in case they jerk around and you cut them by accident.

**Q: Is small-medium clipper good for a red nose pitbull who is currently still a puppy?**
A: It should be fine. This is a heavy duty clipper, able to handle larger nails, but it should cut a smaller nail as well. The only caution would be that the built in nail-stop may allow you to take off more than needed for a small dog, so you'd have to be very careful not to cut too much off.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very sharp and allows fine shavings

I found the tool to be very good quality and well made. My WCS, Joe, has black nails, so I have to creep-up on to the quick, fine shavings allows me to do this without fear of actually cutting the quick. The little depth-stop is okay, in theory, but actually hampers the view which, ironically, could lead to cutting too deep. It's not a drama, as it can be swung out of the way. Otherwise, a really useful tool.
