It's quite a good translation, but if you are picking it up expecting it to read like a normal novel: stop. It is not written like a regular novel, and going into it thinking that it is will give you a jarring experience. It's quite simplistic in style, which I believe is normal light novels, and as such I don't think it will be suited for everyone's taste. If you can get past that though, then it's definitely a fantastic read simply because you get to see how everything began.
