We recommend to place a small cup of water in the microwave with the pack each time you heat. The moisture from the evaporating water helps prevent the wheat from drying out and will hopefully prolong the lifespan of your heat pack

can these be washed in washing machine?

Hello. No they can't. The bag is full of wheat and getting that wet would ruin it.

Can you use this as a cold pack I.e. place in freezer?

It would work, but not terribly well. I don't think that it will hold the cold very well and would probably be a bit cool for a short while rather than proper cold for any significant period. You're probably better off going for a gel-based ice-pack.
