Twist (Dive Bar Book 2)

Twist is the second instalment in the Dive Bar series from Kylie Scott and it was much better than the first one Dirty. Twist follows Joe Collins and Alex Parks (a new character that we’re introduced to in this book) as they right their wrongs – or rather, Joe rights his wrong and Alex does her utmost to make things hard for him.The story begins with Alex Parks appearing at the Dive Bar on a random to meet Eric Collins, Joe’s brother. It appears that judging from the beginning of the book that Eric and Alex have been conversing via online dating for a while before she takes a leap of faith and goes to meet Eric for his birthday.Disaster.But this was expected, as to be fair, there wouldn’t be a book if there wasn’t at least one disaster to be fixed!What follows is one of the best written contemporary novels I’ve read in a long time; there was plenty of humour and drama, characters to fall in love with and a storyline of catfish proportions. There was a perfect balance between the two main characters and the secondary characters with little friction but with a quick & wicked sense of camaraderie between all the Dive Bar and Alex.You know how a book is generally considered good when part of the plot gives you a sucker punch to the gut like no other? Twist had this and it had it in spades. I was already feeling poorly and receiving this ARC made my week; that one section though. Kylie – no word of a lie, brought a little tear to my eye. Such a hard hitting side arc.At first I was a little off put by Alex as she seemed really uncomfortable in the situation but as the story progressed Kylie explained the whys and wherefores and it made her reactions to certain things make all the more sense. Joe was just as mysteriously bearded as he was in Dirty and it was lovely to see the other side to Joe that we see in this book.It was a little shorter than I expected – length wise – but it was incredibly fast paced and before I knew it I’d blasted through 20% in under 15 minutes which is another sure fire sign of a great book.Kylie’s writing has done nothing but improve over the course of her books and another great part about Twist? The Stage Dive boys & girls were back in town! The ending was perfect and I mean that in all the ways. I need the next book Chaser ASAP.It’s hard reviewing this book without giving away any crucial details.

This spin off from the Stage Dive series, this is the second Dive Bar book and it focuses on Joe and Alex...although it starts off with Alex thinking she is meeting Eric, Joe's brother. That mistake is soon rectified but some damage has already been done.Joe is shocked to meet Alex and she is horrified that she has been duped by Joe into thinking that she has been talking to Eric for months. Based on appearances Eric is far more her type ... or so she thought. It doesn't take long for her to realise that Joe may be her type after all.I really liked Alex . She was fragile in some ways but I admired her determination to push herself (and Joe). Watching her gain confidence and grow as a character was awesome and I was cheering loudly for her from the side lines.At first I liked Joe very much. He was sweet and caring and gorgeous and quite frankly he was ticking all the boxes. Then the book took a twist (no pun intended) and quite frankly I wanted to kick him in his boxes!!! I found it hard to accept that he went from being so caring and lovely to suddenly being prepared to step away. I wanted him to stand up for Alex more. He did redeem himself but that was why this didn't quite hit 5 stars. Very close though.A great read and lovely to catch up with the Bar and Group gang.HEA? YesCheating? NoTriggers - Miscarriage

Nice, but no cigar.I'm a big fan of this authors and am perhaps still too attached to the Stage dive series to make an impartial judgement on her other books. And this book was fine, enjoyable, worth the money; but just not as good as I expected. I thought the first 40% dragged too much...Then up to the 80% point was great, then the last 20% I seriously wanted to punch him for this ' woe is me ' rubbish he seemed to allow himself get rutted in, and I wanted to just make her leave and stay gone. She was one of those irritating friends you have all your life, that you always try to help, look after because she's pretty much twitchy about her own shadow, and that you finally as an adult have to reduce contact with because her ways just affect your own happiness too much. Did I like her? yeah. But would I want her on my 'Friday night out with the girls ' list? No. Likeable but irksome.And that for me for the first time in one of this authors books was the tone of the book. Likeable but irksome.

This was a nice book, worth the money. It was well written but I struggle a bit at first. I don't know, maybe I'm too attached to Mal story (Play) an amazing book with so much laughter in it that I'm always a bit disappointed with her other books. Anyhow, I found the beginning of the book a bit slow, I liked Alex, Joe a bit less but they were perfect for each other in my opinion, the yes man and the no girl. Alex got more confidence and grew as a character during the story which was great, as for Joe is was sweet at first and then just did a turn around and closed himself.It is still a Kylie Scoot book, so you get a well written story, endearing second characters, and a little appearance from Mal! 😉

Worth 5 stars, I read this in one go. Great catching up with all the characters from Kylie's other books. Good scenario, girl goes to meet man she's been talking to online. Decides to surprise him and catch a flight to his town. Only to find the guy she sees is not the guy she's been baring her soul to, no, its his brother. Confusion begins. Angst, humour, hot loving, tragedy. This book has it all. There is a part that got me so wound up, involving Joe. Idiot! Didn't know how that would work out. One click, won't be disappointed.

I generally really enjoy this authors offerings but this one fell just a little short of the mark. Another reviewer summed it up perfectly the last 20% was just blah! All personal opinion and as with the Stage Dive series 3 out of the 4 were great (Deep in my opinion was the weakest) I will keep going with the next instalment keeping my fingers crossed that it will be a 'Lead'!
