Strong and sturdy
I am very happy with these steps as they are really sturdy with wide steps plus I feel safe with the holding bar at the top. They aren't exactly lightweight although not heavy either so somewhere in the middle. The fiddly little spanner was a nightmare to use to attach the hand rails and what should have been a 10 min job took quite a bit longer so you will need your own I feel.

A bit awkward to attach the handrails
This ladder is sturdy, but a bit heavier and bulkier than I anticipated. I found it awkward to attach the rails and had to call on the help of my son to tighten the screws, as I didn't have enough strength to do this. Plus, the tool supplied for the job is worse than useless and he had to use his own set of tools. Once assembled, I felt far safer using this ladder than I did with my old 3-step kitchen stool.

A Good Heavyweight Step Ladder
A very sturdy set of 3-step ladders with side grips. The only downsides are its weight being all-steel of 7kg (I already knew about that) and the 'rubbish' spanner supplied to tighten the nuts to the side braces. These nuts have plastic inserts which means that they take some tightening during which the spanner, being stamped from thin metal, slips. So, unless you tighten them up really well, the side grips will wobble. If you don't have any grips, ask a friend to lend you some and a largish Phillips screwdriver as well. Better yet, get someone else to do it for you.

These steps are brilliant as the wide treads make it so much easier ...
I have been driven to 'granny steps' following a fall last year that had nasty consequences and resulted in my being a real wimp unless my feet are firmly on the floor. These steps are brilliant as the wide treads make it so much easier to stand securely, aided by the handrails (that I don't always use). The steps are quite bulky when folded up so I screw the side rails on with wing nuts so they can be easily removed and used when required. They are substantial and not the usual lightweight variety so they are quite heavy if you need to be moving them around to use or store.

Heavy to carry but unstable and tip sideways in use.
Firstly, the screw sets provided do not tighten the lower part of the handrail properly. It appears as though the screws are too long and I had to fill the gap with some spare washers I had and use a wrench. Secondly the steps are too close together so you can nit get your whole foot on them properly and climbing up and down does not feel very safe. Thirdly these ladders are a conundrum. The physical weight of them indicates that they should be very sturdy, and they are in terms of tipping either forwards or backwards as far as the second step BUT they easily lift off the ground sideways if weight isn’t distributed evenly and the top step seems perilously unstable. I bought them for my partially disabled 11 year old to help her get on and off bunk beds that have ladders without sufficient tread or handrail and require her to climb right over the top . She only weighs 35kg and her partial disability is lack of balance. With the ladders at a slight angle to the bunk beds, climbing up onto the second step, firmly holding onto the hand rail, the ladders begin to sway as she turns her body to ease herself onto the mattress level with her bottom. I have to stand and hold the ladders to stop them tipping which completely defeats the object of them helping her increase her independence. Climbing down at a slight angle, as she grabs the hand rail and puts her body weight onto the second step, it again sways sideways. So unless you stand completely parallel to the steps and do not lean to the side, they will lift off the ground. When I Stand on the top step, I do not feel safe at all and I only weigh 52kg. Admittedly, this is using them on a short pile carpet, but even on a hard floor, I still find they lift and sway if I lean either too far left or right. I was hoping to use them myself in the garden in the better weather but my fear would be a gust of wind making them topple. Carrying them , they are reassuringly heavy, but using them, they just seem flimsy which is all rather odd. If they weren’t so cumbersome, I’d return them, but I have just read that the company do not allow the customer to have them collected from home. Also in my attempts to tighten the dodgy lower part of the side rails, I scratched the paintwork so I guess I’m stuck with them. I’m now going to have to rethink the bunk beds and use these ladders for forward facing cupboard cleaning or something equally straightforward. They won’t be going anywhere near a stiff breeze, that’s for sure.

Very sturdy
I hate ladders however this 3 step ladder with handles each sides is perfect. I feel much more confident with the safety bars. Highly recommend for any household

Safe
The only reason I gave this a four star for sturdiness and weight is because, when on the treads they tip slightly. But I've used them a few times and tried to tip the treads, but they are safe and only drop about half an inch. They are made of heavy metal tubing, so if you are not very strong you may have a problem lifting them. But you'd have to be pretty weak or disabled to have a problem and if this is the case, I reluctantly suggest that you really shouldn't be climbing ladders or steps. But most people shouldn't have any issue with them
