They are good as a colour pencil, it's a bit more difficult using them as painting pencils. You need to think about wetting either the pencil or the paper and if you go the paper route, where, exactly, you want the paint to bleed to. Wetting the pencil is more easily controlled, but a nuisance having to keep wetting the pencil.
