Microsoft Surface Book 2 15" (Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 256 GB)

Microsoft did it RIGHT.. I couldn't even begin to find a better laptop on the market at this price point. It's great for design AND great for gaming. The battery life is nothing less than impressive. It actually means something when you set the power options. At power saving, it does the basics - stream video, word processing, etc. At high performance, this thing sounds like its about to take off when the fans turn on. I haven't edited video BUT I have played Fallout 4 and GTA V online (+Sims 4 and Team Fortress 2). Other than a small issue with the resolution sizes (very few options @ 3:2 aspect ratio), it works flawlessly at the highest settings. Maybe there are some other games I can try but so far so good. When just streaming video on Netflix or Hulu, I've binge watched OITNB, The Originals, The 100, and I fell asleep before the laptop did. When I woke up, the battery was, at its lowest ever, 34% but usually 50-60% after about 4 to 5 hours.

This is an excellent computer with all the high end configuration. Wanted a sleek computer which works like a beast. Product satisfied every requirement of mine. Very light and robust. Display and sound quality is excellent. The speakers on this laptop are on the sides of the screen unlike Lenovo Yoga series(which have them underneath). Beats out all the competitors in make and specs. I am a software engineer and do little bit of gaming. This is an excellent laptop to run my IDEs, ML Analysis and OpenCV stuff. Wont be needing an upgrade for another 5 years. :) Cons: Repair-ability and lack of thunderbolt port (although I doubt the necessity of this one for me).

Microsoft surface book 2 is a premium product which i have had the pleasure of using for the last 3 months, the keyboard is very nice to use with a good crisp key action and nicely spaced keys. The screen is very clear with a top quality, high end display and the action in which you diconnect it from the keyboard is very nice and easy to operate as it has its own key. The screen as a tablet is very smooth and although it seems a little large, as a 15" tablet, you soon get used to this as it truely is a pleasure to use. The Microsoft app store is nice with some good options across the board and is getting better as time goes by but still has a long way to go. Overall a very well made 2 in 1 laptop with a lot to give, i highly recommend this product.

I had high expectations. Strongest hardware - gpu, cpu, memory (though 16gb and not 32gb) for work. Touch and pen. The hardware - product came worked for a week and then screen wouldn’t start / had issues. Went to msft store at the time and they wanted to replace with a refurbished computer. Can you imagine you buy a product a week doesn’t pass by that you haven’t even used it. On your second use you see there are issues POST an update and you go to the store and instead of a new one they want to give you a refurbished one. Their warranty is a joke! They are willing, on paper, to replace to a new one only twice and it must happen within the first year otherwise only refurbished / send to be fixed. The software - windows is horrible. This is me writing 2 years later. It updates all the time and restarts your computer regardless if you want to or not. You can delay for a week but it’ll happen. So forget your precious work. It is buggy and these updates seem to only make things worse! I put my computer to sleep and it gets out of it immediately. This happened since a windows update. I was a windows user in the past, switched to Mac many years ago and needed touch screen and pen capabilities so I paid good money for this but it’s amazing how bad the software is. The good: the pen and touch screen are great when they work. After an update it seems that it will work super slow unless plugged to an outlet. The gpu can work good. Due to windows it’s not as fast as I hoped it is compare to my macs that some have worse hardware. The touch pad is small, I don’t find the keyboard as great as the reviews say. It’s too dense for me vs a Mac. All an all - run away. Buy iPad Pro with pen and a Mac and if you need gpu for work save money on a standalone computer with gpu / cloud you can remotely connect to

I general, I love my Surface Book 2. I have had a few issues, but those have been addressed by others. My biggest challenge has been trying to figure out a dock/hub solution. I didn’t go with the Surface Dock because of short non-removable/extendable proprietary cable and less power delivery. I wish Microsoft would fix both of those things and offer a simple option that didn’t involve figuring out all the separate pieces described below. Other dock options are out there, but I couldn't find one that clearly supported 100w power delivery and 4k video at 60hz. I decided to try connecting and charging my Surface Book 2 (15in) through a USB-C hub connected to a 4K TV/monitor. I have tried 4 different hubs, 8 USB-C extension cables, 3 USB-C to USB-C cables, 3 USB-C to HDMI cables, and 3 HDMI cables. I have tested each exhaustively to figure out what does and doesn’t work. I am going to include what I finally found did work to hopefully save you the weeks of testing, frustration, and returns that I went through. If you are looking for a way to have one clean 3ft cable (so that the hub can be behind desk) that connects to the USB-C port on your Surface Book 2 and provides charging (95 to 100w) at same or better rate than the original charger, and connects to a 4k display at 60hz, and does not cause image or sound distortions, and allows connecting other USB peripherals to the hub, here is what works (links below): - Anker Powerline II USB-C to USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 3ft - This is the KEY PIECE! I fought through so many cables that were infuriatingly problematic and inconsistent. The Anker Powerline II worked perfectly as soon as I plugged it in and has continued to do so every time. I REALLY wish I had just found it first! It would have saved me hours and hours of frustration! If you can have the hub right next to your laptop and then a bunch of cables running out from there, then this cable is not necessary, but I needed a clean look with one cable from the laptop and then all the mess behind the monitor and desk. - WBPINE USB C Hub HDMI 5-in-1 Multiport Adapter or Koopman Dex Station USB Type C 5-in-1 Hub - These appear to be the same product and manufacturer. I like the black case and green power light of the WBPINE. Koopman offers a better warranty. Both worked the same. One of the great things about these hubs—besides the rarity of supporting 4k at 60hz and 100w power—is that the 6in cable to connect to the laptop is removable. That makes it both more durable and possible to replace the short cable with a longer one rather than having to use as USB-C extension (male-to-female) cable which I found to be more problematic and harder to find with the right specs. - Wacom 100w Power Adapter with 6ft “Mickey Mouse” AC Power Cord – This is expensive for just a power adapter. At the time, it was the only good option I could find to support 100w. Hopefully more 100w power adapters will come available at lower cost. - High Speed HDMI Cable - I have tested several. They have all worked. I could not see any difference between 4ft and 6ft, but 4ft fit my application better. Just make sure it is rated for high speed. Don’t spend more than $10. - TCL 55S423 55in TV - (From Costco) Great price. Supports Chroma 4:4:4. Has ports coming off the side rather than back. 55in is as big as I would want to go for comfortable monitor. The TCL 55S405 is similar, but I think it has the ports coming off the back which means it has to mount farther from the wall. - As a side note, the Vivo Mount-VW03G is a great mount for a 55in screen that you need to be height-adjustable and rotatable and the Vivo Desk-V111VT makes a great rolling height-adjustable standing desk. Now that I finally have the hub and cables figured out, I am loving my setup!! The Surface Book 2 is a great computer. Lots of power. 15" screen works fantastic. Detached as tablet the screen is very light and comfortable. The battery is amazing. No worries because the whole day if the battry will last. Charging is quick. And of course touch is wonderful with or without the optional pen. I owned a Surface Pro 3 and 4 before. This device is for real computing even better. The price is worth it. I can't imagine why people buy a MacBook Pro instead (without touch, detachable screen).

This computer is a beautiful workhorse of a machine, equally at home serving as the basis for a multi monitor desktop arrangement as it is a travel companion. The build quality is very solid, but reasonable light for a bigger computer. The removable "tablet" also gives an additional option for portability. The battery life, especially in docked mode, is especially tremendous. I really only have two concerns -- with ever-shrinking airline seats, it could be a little difficult to get work done on a plane. If you're really concerned, go for the 13" model, but my aging eyes demanded the larger screen. My only other complaint is that some times the high-resolution is TOO high, and requires some adjustment for certain programs (VMware view, especially). But those aren't bad trade-offs for an excellent machine.

A seriously great laptop. I've had it over a month now and it has been able to handle anything I've thrown at it. Editing videos, playing games, photoshop, watching 4k video, ripping and transcoding blu ray disks (with external drive), recording and editing music. It also manages to be completely quiet during low load activities like browsing the internet and watching videos, and is relatively quiet under heavy load. It's become a powerful tool that has almost entirely replaced my Desktop.

The laptop is great. The seller was even better. Just be careful if you want Microsoft complete, you have to do it while ordering and not after

It's expensive as hell, but this laptop meets all my needs. I'm both a creative and work in tech. So I have the power I need to do any of my consulting work as well as my arts - Including, but not limited to, drawing, video editing, and photo editing. This laptop is a beast and probably one of the best investments I've made as an adult. Also, as a big guy, the 15" in tablet mode isn't as much a nuisance as others seem to make it out to be. Definitely not worth the money if you aren't going to use it to its full capabilities though. So unless you need its power, screen size, and awesome video card, don't bother. Check your requirements for your work, compare it to the laptop. If you don't need 80% of it's functionality at least, go for the cheaper offer - that's my advice.

My first real 2 in 1. Awesome keyboard, awesome screen, awesome life battery, awesome gtx 1060, awesome ram and awesome design. 10/10. Worth all my bucks. I would suggest an extended warranty for this kind of laptop because it's so hard to repair.
