Buy Mercedes-Benz SL R129-series 1989 to 2001 (Essential Buyer's Guide) by Parish, Julian (ISBN: 9781845848989) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Small but perfectly formed. - An excellent summary of the principle things to be watching for when buying and owning one of these cars. Having just purchased one of these cars with little prior knowledge of the mark, I would definitely have preferred to have done so with this guide in my back pocket! Which brings me back to the book - don't be expecting a big coffee table brochure of a book. This is smaller than A5 in size and contains only 64 sides of print (32 leafs of paper). I was expecting more but to be fair, the content was well presented, engaging, relevant and thus useful. The author is clearly British and so references do have a British perspective but reference to US market cars (and to a much lesser extent Germany, Australia and Japan) is also made throughout the book. In fact, most of the pictures refer to left hand drive cars. Am I wiser from reading the book? Yes. If looking to purchase an R129 would I (after now having read the book) recommend you first buy this book? Yes, definitely. But you should extend your research beyond this book by further reading (see author Brian Long). You will need to understand the cars various phases of development, consult the classifieds / internet to get a feel for prices and most importantly consult with specialists (as Julian Parish recommends). Oh, and join an owners club before buying - at least for the abundance of advice if not the enthusiasts cars for sale. Did I buy a lemon prior to reading the book? No, So far, I think I have been lucky! This book would however have given me a head start into better understanding what I was about to let myself in for. Review: Useful introduction to the R129 - A good background book but not very detailed if you want to know the year by year and model by model detail, think there are better books for the real enthusiast

nothing extraordinary, most of the information contained in the little book i've read elsewhere online. not a complete waste of money but i probably spent that money on something more technical.
