Yes it will work but you have to update the 1197 with the latest software and contact hummingbird for software for the 898 that is compatible. They will send it to you for free, it is not on their web page. The 898 can not have the latest software or you will not be able to share with each other.

Jay,The cable number and picture do not match. The 720073-2 AS EC 10E cable has to threaded connections that will connect between 2 Ethernet compatible systems or from one system to a network box. I can't talk to older versions of Humminbird systems. In my case I have a newer bow mounted 999 SI CS HD, a Minn Kota GPS controlled trolling motor and a console mounted 798 all connected to a network box.I hope this helps.

according to answers on Cabelas site it will , I BOUGHT TO connect humminbird 899 to a Helix 9 but haven't tried it yet, you also may need adapter cable AS EC QDE
