I just popped the old one off and popped the new one on. Easy. Sorted for another 10 years. Good quality, mains powered with battery backup. We have had occasions where smoky cooking or blasts of heat from opening a very hot oven has set them off so we know they do they're job. Both alarms sound when one is triggered. Easily silenced with a ten minute reset. Very pleased. I interchanged mine the other way around. they fit perfectly. If you have any doubts call their technical line. they are really helpful. I'm thinking that the detector has a battery back up so should still function if you remove it from the ceiling. I'm also guessing you have a high level oven with the detector almost above it. Would it be possible for you to move the detector a couple of feet further away. It's hard wired so get a sparks in or take care. You can disconnect the third wire in the kitchen only and the rest of the house won't then alarm when the kitchen one does. However you should not have a smoke alarm in the kitchen anyway it should be a heat detector.
