Replacement gate for one that hinge broke after 9 years
This is the third Savic gate we have had in 9 years but in different locations. The one that had previously been across our stairs deteriorated with the plastic housing the hinge spring cracking. However it got a huge amount of use every day so we think that 9 years of repeated use every day for £60 for the gate is actually good value and build quality. The photo shows where the previous gate cracked.Very easy to install. Very robust and smooth to operate. I hope we get another 9 years out of this new gate and our dogs certainly know what the gate means!

Very sturdy
After the first one sent back that had not been properly checked by the manufacturer so came with screws without holes or threads to fit to the wall, this one is perfect, very sturdy, very very tall, my GSD (who can leap 4ft walls) and my Labrador who bounces around like a jack in the box have not even tried to jump it, it looks good too and is portable which is excellent, could do with several around the house to control their access. The good thing is they have extensions for wide hallways to stop them both getting at the postman. Pricey but certainly worth it.

Poor Quality
I am so disappointed with Savic. I bought two of these gates based on my previous experience with Savic products. Their crates are excellent value and quality. This gate is sturdy in overall construction and look fabulous, unfortunately it has a terrible flaw. The spring mechanism which pivots the swinging mechanism to open the gate is extremely weak. It literally snapped off after about a weeks use. I have written to Savic but after my initial response where they asked for more information I have heard nothing. Very poor customer service.

Not recommended for big, strong dogs!
If you have a big dog, who will try to escape, I suggest you look for an alternative gate, however your choices will be limited!I have a 3 year old Alaskan Malamute, and in the past 18 months he has broken two of these gates as well as three extensions. The actual gate is OK, its a good height for a large dog. The problem is the quality of the materials used is cheap, there are lots of plastic parts which break easily.Earlier today my dog has broken through the gate and ransacked the kitchen cupboards, I now need another gate but my choices are limited, there aren't many options for people who have big strong dogs, and need a sturdy gate, all the gates I have looked are cheaply made and over time will simply fall apart, sadly this is one of them!

Pretty good but not as good as it should be for the price
This is a well made gate which should last for years. It comes well packaged and within 5 minutes it should be assembled and ready to install.I would suggest that you do not fix it to the all/door jamb before leaving it in place for a few days to just settle; basically you need to get the item "balanced" on its four fixing points so that the gate does not move when you leave it in any open position. So why 4 stars? Personally I did think that it should only be worth 3, but based on the quality of materials used for the gate, it squeezed in a 4. Basically my concerns are that the locking mechanism does not feel that robust, indeed, my clicks half way through closing it, before the latch is engaged on the gate, secondly and of equal importance, I would expect this gate to at least of through 90 degrees or more, however, swinging the gate out wards, it only opens about 85 degrees as the hinge mechanism impedes it. I will try and post a photograph to illustrate what I mean. It is so annoying as it restricts a narrow opening to something even more narrow, which with a little thought could have been negated. It does stop our border collie from exiting the utility room though, but the whole thing is that it is annoying that the gate won't open fully and only time will tell regarding the locking mechanism.SORRY, AMAZON FOR SOME REASON WILL NOT ACCEPT MY VIDEO, ALTHOUGH IT IS IN THE CORRECT FORMAT. WILL TRY AGAIN!

Great gate. Removing it is a nightmare
Gate is great and has kept my house secure from my big rescue puppy. Only given 3 stars because once you stick the pressure cups to the walls they are impossible to get off

Excellent and safe
I love the Savic Dog Barrier Door (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003A6MFOA/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title)This is a fantastic way of keeping a busybody dog, away from the kitchen action but still stay part of the family. I put the Dog Barrier between the kitchen and the utility room. I can get on with baking and cooking without tripping over the whippet at my feet. He is safely out of my way but still able to see me and hear me and not feel left out. Also he can be left on the kitchen side as I open the back door to the postman etc.The whole thing is taller than the usual 'baby' gate but not obtrusively so and the grey colour is reasonably pleasant. The Barrier is left in place all the time and the gate only closed when necessary.I wish I had bought the dog barrier gate two years ago. I see today they are reduced in price - I may buy a second one - they're so useful.
