Obviously there are stethoscopes more suited for professional pediatric use, but you can listen to a child's heart beat with this.

can this be used for horses to hear gut sounds and heartbeat? looking for one to put in my barn first-aid kit

I can hear my own heartbeat with this scope, so I think you'd likely be able to hear a fetal heartbeat if you get the head of the scope placed at the recommended point on your abdomen. HOWEVER, I noticed when you rotate the head of the scope around the shaft on which it's mounted, you are supposed to hear a click when you've gone from the flat side to the bell side as the active side., and I can rotate it 360 degrees without hearing a click. I suspect this is a quality control problem with this brand. You might look at a pediatric stethoscope for a fetal heartbeat.
