Hoodman HEYEC18 Hoodeye cup
Use it on a Canon 550D - fits perfectly and is made of tough material so you can twist it round to use for left or right eye (whichever is dominant) and block out unnecessary light around the image. Use the viewfinder for 99% of my photo's and this gadget really helps frame pictures so I don't have to waste time cropping in editing. Good value.

Great Clarity
I always loved having a soft eye cup on my old film SLR's and it this one certainly works great on my DSLR!It really helps cut out the ambient light. When you are using off camera flash as well it really helps with cutting down on the amount of spill light entering your eye.The reason for not giving it 5 stars is that this can come off if you are putting it into a tight camera bag. As it isn't exactly cheap, it is a good idea to be careful when putting your camera away.

Needs redesign for EOS 60D
I've just fitted the Hoodeye to my new EOS 60d. Whilst it does it's job well in so far as improving viewing via the viewfinder and is comfortable to rest your eye against, be aware that due to the swivel nature of the rear LCD screen, the Hoodeye interferes with the opening/closing of this screen. This means that I have to unclip the base of the Hoodeye to ease the LCD screen open/closed then re-clip it. Even doing this means that it rubs against the rubber surround. I suspect this will lead to early wear on the eyepiece. It's a good product but needs re-design for the EOS 60d and any other models with the svivel LCD screen.

Comfy and good fit
Comfy and good fit. rotate the eye piece to suit and individual.downside is that on some cameras with a tilt screen - you'll have to remove the eyepice to move the screen. not a big drawback.

Simple, effective, easy to install
First things first: installation. This seems to be the biggest problem people have with this thing, but I really liked the design and feel (tried it out on a friend's camera), so I ordered one up. I dreaded putting this thing on because of all the stories of the general difficulty in getting it on, but surprise! It took less than 15 seconds and one failed attempt, mostly because my first attempt was just a quick "shove it on there and see if it works". Well it didn't get on at all, but I looked right on the packaging which had the instructions very clearly (and largely) displayed. As stevenkurt says (along with the packaging), simply tilt it back slightly and push it down onto the eyepiece grooves. You'll know instantly when it engages because it loses all sideways play and moves only vertically. Once it gets to the bottom it snaps solidly into place. DO NOT CUT IT DOWN!After I got it on my 60d, I was concerned it would be difficult to remove. Well the instructions (again large, and on the package) just said to lift up the lip on the bottom and push up. It comes off even easier than it went on. And when I went to slide it back on, I had no problems. So if you can follow directions and/or imitate the LARGE photos of how to put it on in the instructions, you won't have issues. As for functionality, it's excellent. The default eyepiece on the Canons is mediocre to poor, and the one with the 60d kept sliding off with little provocation (ie, coming in and out of a camera bag), not to mention it did nothing to block out ambient light. This one does a really good job of blocking out side light. If I try really hard and I'm not pressing into the cup I can barely make out a tiny line of light at the very edge of my vision, but I have to be looking completely sidewise and not into the viewfinder, so it's a moot point. The cup is comfortable, and you can adjust the longer teardrop end to any side you wish. At first I thought putting the longer end on the side of my face would be more effective, but surprisingly it works better against / over my nose. Fortunately you can experiment with locations since it's dead simple to move - the rubber part rotates. Finally, it's on solidly. No longer does the eyepiece come off just leaving my camera bag. I'd be hard pressed to accidentally pull it off. So this, combined with a couple fast primes and the EF-S focusing screen, and I can dial in manual focused shots with astonishing speed, and for everything else (autofocus shots, etc) it works well to isolate the image. Best of all, it's not crazy expensive. I highly recommend it.

Blocks Part Of T5i Screen And Triggers Eye Sensor
I purchased this Eye Cup to block the bright sun at the beach. It DOES block the sun, as advertised. But, it also blocks a portion of the upper part of the LCD screen and it intermittently (and randomly) triggers the Eye Sensor on the camera, thus turning off the LCD screen when my eye is no where near the viewfinder. So, unless I want to use the viewfinder exclusively (I don't) and turn off the eye sensor, this product is not for me.

Attention Canon 60D owners
Just got this Hoodeye attached to my Canon 60D and It fits well. No trimming of bracket needed. Shot a few pictures and it is MUCH more comfortable looking though viewfinder. BUT... the 60D has a multi-angle LCD that can not be opened with the Hoodeye installed. The lower part of the cup extended over the LCD enough to block it from opening. I thought of trimming the lower rubber cup to clear the LCD door, but so much needs to be cut off that I am afraid the Hoodeye will become apart. It is easy to remove and if the screen is flipped around first (like a normal DSLR) the Hoodeye will quickly install and work great. I normal shoot with the screen turned around, I don't like to preview each shot.My problem is once I tried it and then went back to the factory Canon cup, The Canon was noticeably different in a bad way. Like holding a rock against your eye.I am not going to return it. I'm going to attempt to trim the problem area off while still keeping it and the camera LCD functional.

Fitment issue...know what you are getting into!
I liked the idea of a eye cup that would offer more of a light seal... but this is useless on cameras with articulated screens, since it covers part of the screen and prevents you from swiveling it out. Also, just the fact that it covers part of the screen at all is annoying, but I should have paid closer attention, as it is pretty obvious from the product picture. It does work fine, and it fits on perfectly- but it will affect how you can use your camera.
