The creator of National Geographic's popular Blue Zones franchise brings readers a beautifully illustrated and informative guide to the Blue Zones―the places on Earth where people live the longest―including lessons learned, top longevity foods, and the "Power 9" behaviors to help you live to 100―plus a surprising new Blue Zone. National Geographic Explorer and best-selling author Dan Buettner has traveled the globe to uncover the best strategies for longevity, which he found in the Blue Zones: places around the world where higher percentages of people enjoy remarkably long, full lives. In The Blue Zones Secrets for Living Longer, Buettner returns to Sardinia, Italy; Ikaria, Greece; Okinawa, Japan; Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula; and Loma Linda, California to check in on the super-agers living in the blue zones and interprets the not-so-secret sauce of purpose, faith, community, down-time, natural movement, and plant-based eating that has powered as many as 10 additional years of healthy living in these regions. And Buettner reveals an all-new Blue Zone―the first man-made Blue Zone yet explored. Throughout his two decades of research, Buettner has worked with some of National Geographic's top photographers―including David McLain and Gianluca Cola―to document the healthy habits of the world's longest living communities. In this informative collection, their work punctuates Buettner's lively text, offering a beautiful tour of the Blue Zones. Review: Possibly the only healthy living book I'll ever need - very impressed - I bought this book in a bid to improve my lifestyle and diet moving into 2026 and am really impressed with it. For a start, it's a beautiful book, filled with lovely photography from around the world but, more importantly, contains just the right balance of narrative and well- researched facts. Each Blue Zone covered contains a useful list of lessons learned to implement, top longevity foods plus an easy adaptable recipe but it's not a recipe book as such. If you want more recipes there are recipe books written by the author or check out his website for lots of freely available ones. This is a great healthy living book which I would recommend to anyone aiming for quality of life into old age. Review: Fabulous book, helpful & practical lifestyle tips & gorgeous imagery - This is a beautiful, inspiring and uplifting book. It is full of gorgeous colour photographs, so in addition to containing helpful lifestyle advice, it's a lovely coffee table book (I have the hardback version). Visitors to our house always pick it up and flick through it, and it always prompts a discussion. I had already watched the documentary before I bought the book. Even so, reading the book provided extra detail, and reminded me how simple some of the recommendations are (walk more, eat more legumes and sweet potatoes, be part of your community, etc, etc). This is the type of book that I will dip in and out of regularly. I've struggled throughout my life with my weight, as well as on and off with anxiety and depression. The recommendations in this book are not only to help live a longer life, but also a better quality of life. I can't say I find it easy to stick with nutrition and exercise plans, so I prefer to think of this as a lifestyle plan, and if I incorporate even one or two elements into my daily life, I hope it will help

I’ve watched the show and decided to buy a book also.
I wasnt disappointed with it. I keep my books above my desk, so I often look at them, pick one up and flip thru them. I love this one because it describes what to do to live longer. People from all over the world doing similar things unconsciously to stay fit and live healthy and long lives. It’s fascinating. I’ve already implemented few behaviours like doing a sumo squat when I’m peeling veggies I go down to the floor, or sitting with my legs crossed, or taking the stairs more. I prepare most of my meals from scratch anyway and I already was a pescatarian before watching the show and reading book, so I was happy to confirm my beliefs. I really love Dan’s Instagram profile as well. I’m all over this lifestyle idea 😊

Fascinating book.
Wonderful book about the ‘blue zones’ where people live longer. Informative and well set out with numerous health tips on longevity but also fascinating insights into other cultures.

Wife reading it first, had to buy it
Have had quick look and its impressive. We both saw the Netflix series, mind blowing. So many things rang a bell. This guy knows his stuff. I was already a believer in an alternative living style, so my friends say. I also knew about the Greek (low industrial) vs Japan (high industrial) comparison, where both offer brill life expectancy. Food plays a big part but also lifestyle/attitude. So, its fish and relaxed peaceful island life for me (normally called holidays). We had to buy the book, my wife's working through it, my turn next. Before you think I'm paid to sell this, the answer is no. I just hate junk food, all the additives to make you eat the wrong stuff and the threat to long life and good health. Great piece of work, thanks Dan.

Excellent read and makes a good chance to change your own life
I love the very informative Dan Buettner books and videos. Dan writes about the Blue Zone areas he visits and looks also at changes since he first started studying them. They are some of the most interesting books you can read.

What just works to live a long life
The healthcare industry has its fads of a particular diet, gym and vitamin supplements. Then there endless articles in newspapers and magazines about health. This book looks at locations that have people living the longest in the world and what they are doing. This is based on an observation of the people and most of these people are not doing things that cost of a lot of money in fact most of them may even challenge modern western living. This book is well worth it, consider it as an investment and of course you will need to read it with an open mind.

Love It
Great book with some great advice. Even if you take away just one or two things from this book you’ll probably do yourself some good.

Pleasure to read
It’s a beautiful book, well written, less focused on recipes and more on the life styles of each geography described. And highlighting how a longevity lifestyle (aka a healthy, and also mentally joyful) can be implemented on a large scale across communities with measurable benefits.
