East of West: The Apocalypse Year Two

One of the best books of the last 20 years. Hickman crafts a convoluted thread worthy of Game of Thrones. And Dragota's art elevates it. Its dangerous, sexy and violent.

As with the first volume this is a brilliant book, I thought a lot of reviews said the plot was hard to follow...personally I think it's dead easy to follow but I'm reading these big volumes not the smaller versions so maybe over months and with more comics its harder to remember who's knifing who in the back? Better to assume they all are ALL THE TIME. This volume mostly follows what I'd call the crowd favourites a tad more, more of John Freeman and the Southern dude. Less of the horsemen and less of death/mao. Personally I don't like the Mao stuff at all. It seems a jammed in 6th party when the other 5 parts are all part of the US history. I think the current "China 2nd biggest economy" has brought them into the book where for me a natural 6th party would be Mexican or Hispanic in some way...Resurgent Aztec Mexico would make more sense than an off shoot Chinese faction that somehow got passed Imperial Japan. But maybe I'm biased as Mao seemed untouchable and therefore her parts become boring because you don't ever feel she's in danger. Babylon adds a good twist to the story, it's very clever how the balloon is written to often be truthful and they play really well against each other. Their parts seem like they take the most time to write as they're playing mind chess against each other all the time.

The plot thickens further in Year Two of East of West. Hickman is creating a fascinating and complex universe in his usual style and I think the artwork of Nick Dragotta is some of the best to be seen in comics currently. Between the two of them, they create some amazing, dramatic moments. If you're reading this review, you're probably already familiar with the series but if not, I highly recommend going back and starting ASAP.

Tengo varios comikazos de Imagecomis: los 2 de East of West, los 2 de Saga, Southern Bastards y los 2 de Deadly Class... MARAVILLOSO, MARAVILLOSOS. Si sacaran en España estas mismas ediciones de lujo, seguro que son de un tamaño reducido y costarían el doble (como la de Fábulas de ECC)

At last, Year Two has arrived. This second installment is every bit as creative and original as the first. I hesitate to even hint at spoilers (even though most of you have read all the trades), so I won't discuss the content of the book other than to say it is positively perfect. Jonathan Hickman has continued the story of the apocalypse in a logical, yet unpredictable way. This is definitely an edition to have on your shelf. Also, I would certainly recommend reading the first volume before moving on to this one. Although this is a great story, even standing alone, it is much better enjoyed after having read the first book in the series. Finally, Amazon sells this for $20 less than MSRP, so this is definitely the place to get it. Unless of course you want to support your local comic shop; there's no shame in that.

Talvez no primeiro volume você fique um pouco perdido com todas as tramas e personagens se interligando nesse fantástico mundo de East of West. Mas se você venceu o primeiro HC e gostou do que leu, pode reclinar a poltrona porque neste segundo volume a coisa fica ainda melhor. Sem ter que se preocupar em apresentar os milhares de conceitos dessa série, Hickman e Dragotta podem brincar ainda mais com todas as peças desse enorme tabuleiro. E além disso, a dupla consegue trabalhar e aprofundar a caracterização de seus personagens. Não tem como não simpatizar com o garoto Babylon e seu companheiro Ballon, por exemplo, ou então se surpreender com o guinada dada a Ezra, o guardião da "Mensagem". East of West é com certeza uma das HQs mais excitantes que eu li nos últimos tempos. A única coisa ruim é saber que o terceiro volume ainda não está disponível pra ler...

Lo compré para mi chico y llego muy rápido y en perfecto estado, así que quedamos contentos, teniendo en cuenta que lo pedí justo antes de navidad
