Endgame: A Max Austin Thriller, Book #6 (The Russian Assassin)

Loved all six books & I cannot wait to see what is in store for Max & Kate. The description of the characters & different places was excellent.

Endgame: A Max Austin Thriller, Book #6 is a fitting conclusion to the series. Our protagonist, Max Austin, continues his search for the members of the consortium continues taking him across Europe and the U.S. while still trying to protect his sister and nephew from the fallout from his search. As usual Max's actions gain much attention from the C.I.A., British, Russian and Chinese Intelligence services. But aided by Goshawk, his favorite computer hacker, and other insiders from the C.I.A. and MI6 Max manages to survive and return to his favorite Paris haunts. His success does come at a cost as lives are lost and friendships damaged as he is driven to single mindedly achieve his revenge.There is very little downtime in this book. There is intrigue and action in almost every chapter and because of this the reader is carried along rapidly through the book. This is a book that can easily entertain you over a rainy or snowy weekend.

It's a little bittersweet to leave this review as I am really sad to be saying goodbye to Max, Goshawk, and co....the last book in the series provides a fitting conclusion to Max's story. With his trademark craftsmanship, Arbor produces another tightly plotted, suspense-filled thriller with plenty of twists, turns and potential disasters to satisfy any action fan. But, as always, what is so fabulous about these stories is the complexity and humanity of the characters, and their quirky, eccentric behaviors that lift them above the run of the mill action-thriller cast. It's Max's relationships that endear him to us and humanize him, making him more than just an action hero. If you haven't read any of these before, you should! I have to be honest and say this was not my favourite of the series, but it definitely draws the threads together and signs off in style. I am really crossing my fingers that Max will reappear somewhere down the line because I'm pretty sure he has plenty more stories to tell - but for now, I'll imagine him biding his time listening to great jazz somewhere in Paris....

I truly enjoyed all the books and I am now a fan of Jack Arbor. I certainly look forward to his new books. You can tell how his story telling got better as the new books were coming out. This last book was the best.

Jack Arbor joins the pantheon of great action writers including Lee Child, Brad Thor, and Brad Taylor. Max Austin (the Russian Assassin) is every much a lead figure as Jack Reacher, Scott Horvath, or Pike Logan. End Game concluded a story line that ended with End Game. Weather we hear more from Max Austin, get a spin off series from the Russian Assassin orbit, or get an entirely new character; I am confident that Jack Arbor will continue as one of my favorites.

The journey is finally over and oh what a ride it was. Can't wait to see what Arbor has in store next
