There is only the two of us in the house so the butter wasn't used up quickly and it kept perfectly. I know it is expensive but I think its been worth the price. **Q: Would this take a 500g tub of spreadable butter?** A: No. It will take a 250g pack of butter. Don't bother with spreadable butter. Use real butter. In the autumn through to late spring the butter will stay spreadable as long as you don't refrigerate it. In the summer when it's plus 20c I stick it in the fridge for an hour or 2 just to chill it back down. Hope that helps. **Q: Can you drop a carton of margarine in or do you have to decant it** A: The small cartons drop in a perfect fit. The lage size obviously not. I use small ones, every one I have bought fits. **Q: How long should butter keep in the dish in average temperatures if it’s never put in the fridge** A: I don’t put mine in the fridge at all ,but butter never last more then a week with my husband . He is very keen on jacket potatoes with loads of butter on ,so it doesn’t stay in the dish long enough to go off. I think it would keep well on a week or more in this dish ,as it is very good at staying a constant temperature . Much easier to use than a ‘normal’ butter dish (usually a plate with a lid). This one makes it easier to get the butter out without dropping it all over your worktop, plus, if you drop it or drop the lid it won’t break. Really easy to clean (dishwasher safe).
