I've been teaching stained glass for 8 years and practicing the art for 25 years. This tip combined with the Weller iron is the best out there.

Excellent solder iron tip/cartridge for RF coax and waveguide
This is an excellent solder tip assembly for use on RF waveguide and coax. I have used many soldering irons and tips from several manufacturers and of several styles. This tip assembly has a large thermal mass which makes it good for soldering large connectors onto cables or metal structures (like waveguides); essentially this tip has a large thermal mass or "source" that supplies heat faster than the connector or structure can "sink" it away, and this is important for soldering the center pin or sheath to connectors with poly insulators. Contrast this to the physically small tip used in a Weller pistol grip iron - it is a good tip for smallish soldering (wires together or to large holes on PCBs), but not enough thermal mass to solder a connector quickly, which results in melting the dielectric prior to completing the soldering task.I prefer this tip/cartridge assembly because it is one unit - Weller has alternatives that have a separate tip and heater cartridge (I have these too - for the work I do, I prefer this tip/cartridge assembly). Two notes: 1) be sure to unplug the iron when not in use, get a good iron caddy to keep the iron from rolling around your bench; 2) keep the tip heavily tinned - this will preserve the tip and keep it from oxidizing.
