Is this the original pink ointment that smells fab or the horrid white new version?

Sorry to say, no it's not the original pink. Someone else asked this question on Amazon recently and another, more knowledgeable person, explained which ingredient is no longer in the brilliant original germolene. I have managed to get a bit used to the new stuff. Hope this helps ...
