The Fix: An Amos Decker Novel (Amos Decker series, 3)

Think in a week I've now read the first books in the series and unlike films each one gets better and better..the characters especially Amos but also the others too, are all amazing, another great read,just like eating Pringles crisps, once you start you can't stop ... Bring on number 4,5,6 &7....

Another action packed plot with Amos Decker strengthening the investigation all the time. There were many mixed emotions throughout but a comfortable close was reached.

As usual this was another brilliant read. A thriller by David Baldacci requires concentration but is always impossible to put down

David Baldacci is a prolific writer and mush as I love his John Pullar and Will Robie series, I must admit to having a particular soft spot for Amos Decker. The Fix is Book 3 in the Decker series and it’s a cracker. When Walter Dabney shoots school teacher Anne Berkshire outside the FBI headquarters before turning the gun on himself, Amos Decker, who witnessed the deaths, and his team are tasked to investigate. It’s not long before the team discover anomalies in the lives of both victim and shooter and soon the case becomes a multi- agency affair. What I love most about Baldacci’s writing is his brilliant characterisation. It’s not just that Decker suffers from both hyperthymesia and synaesthesia, it’s the way Baldacci explores the effects of these conditions through Decker, an active investigating FBI detective and through his relationships with his team. The fascinating subject of how the wiring of the brain is such a delicate thing and how trauma to said wirings can affect all aspects of our personalities. With Decker’s fascinating back story, we see him struggle to express and deal with the more ‘human’ emotions most of us take for granted. Alongside that we see his developing relationships with his coleagues and how , despite being in his corner, they are still affected by Decker’s inability to express himself or to conform to some of the social niceties. This warts and all approach makes Decker a very real character who gets into your heart and has you firmly in his corner. As a flawed character, Amos Decker is both distant and yet tantalisingly real. His thought processes are mesmerising and his focus laudable. He is shrouded in sadness, yet he is very real and in The Fix, Baldacci imbues him with a very real feeling of hope. In Decker, Baldacci has hit on a character with a unique premise that takes a typical FBI investigation to another plane. I would happily recommend any of Baldacci books to any crime fiction fan, but, in case you hadn’t noticed, his Amos Decker series is, for me the absolute tops!

I was introduced to this author by my dad. The fix was my first book, so I'm not an expert on David Baldacci's work. The Fix was every slow to start and you had to keep with it for the first 4 chapters until it started to flow and you get intrigued. For my first book I'm not sure it makes me want to rush out and buy some more of this authors work. It was good but it didn't make me not want to put the book down.

I've read a lot of David Baldacci and I found this one a little harder to get into than usual. At times I was a little bored and had to keep pushing my way through certain parts but having said that, it wasn't a bad read overall. Just not one of his better ones in my opinion.

An excellent book by a favourite author. Well worth reading.

Plot line kept me again guessing where everything is going - a lot of times I felt like Alex when Amos is running out of room without saying anything. To be fair first half of the book was more interesting when the ending. Feels like it has been rushed a little bit just to finish it? Anyway all in all - good thriller.

Great read. Good twist to the story line. Enjoyed reading this Amos Decker novel. Look forward to reading the next one

In this, the third installment of the Amos Decker series, David Baldacci pulled out all the stops. This is an epic story, full of twists and turns, and huge surprises. Amos Decker is heading to the FBI for a meeting, and directly in front of him, a man walks out of a coffee house, catches up with a woman, pulls a gun and shoots her dead. Amos Decker and a security guard pull their weapons, telling the man to put the gun down. Instead, he shoots himself. The appears to be no connection between the murderer and the victim. The murderer owns a company that does extensive business with the FBI and other clandestine services, so the repercussions of his actions send shockwaves through Washington intelligence services. The victim is a substitute teacher who lives a quiet life, or so it appears, since her history only starts 10 years ago. So who is this woman, really? Why did the man murder her in front of the FBI headquarters? We meet a new character in the book, the enigmatic Harper Brown of the DIA. What is the DIA's involvement in this situation, and what do they know, and why aren't they sharing it? This is Amos Decker's most titanic case yet, full of false leads, false trails, yet leading to a serious potential threat to national security. Can Amos unravel this Gordian Knot of a case in time to prevent whatever is supposed to happen from happening? This is a great read, with interesting characters, and the story is masterful and plausible. I literally couldn't put it down. And you will find the end ultimately satisfying.

La trama ha estado dando vueltas y giros inesperados. Aunque el inglés no esmi idioma materno, he podido seguir sin problemas la historia y me ha enganchado

Creo que como las demás novelas de Baldacci, las situaciones y personajes están bien diseñados. La historia en principio me pareció interesante, pero me parece que crea demasiadas situaciones alrededor del tema central lo que hace que al final se vuelve inverosímil y ésto hace que el lector pierda interés. Creo que el tema podría haberlo desarrollado en muchas menos páginas y crear una historia emocionante. Al final me costó trabajo terminarla y el fin de la historia me pareció un poco predecible. No es lo mejor que he leído de éste autor que en general me parece entretenido. Hablando de los mismos personajes, creo que me gustó más The Last Mile.

I bought this as a gift for my husband who is a big fan of Baldacci. He said it was a good read, true to Baldacci's writing style. He was not disappointed in the story and was pleased I found this earlier book he had not read.
