Great fun to play with
Since I was young, I've always wanted a basic little synth to play around with sound generation. This little gadget is no toy, but a totally playable musical instrument. The range of sounds it creates is huge, and the audio output is warm and fairly clean. The aux in allows you to use it to add some filtering and delay to other signals, which further increases its usefulness.I challenge you to find another mini synth with this level of enjoyment for anything like the same price.

A bit of a toy BUT it will make you smile.
Putting " your toe in the water" of synthersizers can be quite a confusing experience . Having bought 5 Teenage Engineering PO synths and the Arturo's Microbute , I bought this one more on impulse than recommendations or reviews .I have always disliked having to use the pen on the basic Stylophones ( but David Bowie made them work!) so the use of the finger pad appealed to me but turned out to be less acurate than the pen . The time involved with getting the right programme from my Teenage Engineering PO units eventually is a worthy exercise but childlike in comparison to the Microbute . Where the Gen x-1 wins for me has been jamming in the recording studio to some laid down tracks . I have only had it out of the box for a couple of days BUT. . . . . it is SO MUCH FUN . Just fiddling around for an hour or so I was already getting some brilliant sounds . It will never be an immediate "go to" instrument ' Pride of place ' in my studio will be Behringer s Deepmind ; and I will never think it would find a place in live performances ; so given a tight budget I would recommend a Minikorg or Microbute in preference to this Stylophone HOWEVER for ease of use and portability I think I have found a winner here. Get a good set of earphones ( I use studio headphones ) or put it through an Amplifier ( the Gen X-1 speaker is annoyingly toylike) and given an hour or so your creativity should be unstopable .

Dreadful
The sound this thing made was just crackles, like white noise and it was Thame on every setting. Returned and refunded. Obviously faulty.

Great product - not for novice
First, let me just say, that I only had a chance to see the original Stylophone once, in an old person’s home, in the Falkland Islands. My ex band mates knows this product and I am exploring creating my own music for marketing to avoid paying royalties. Bought this Gen X-1 for my partner and the original re-release of the first model. I have to say I am quite impressed with the performance and the variety of sounds you can create with Gen X1. Pretty straightforward like the original and you can create music with or without using the stylus, thanks to the strip pad above the keys.

A magic box!
The media could not be loaded. A friend recently introduced me to synthesizers and I loved them so much that I really wanted to have one of my own. I am completely new to all of this and by purchasing this Stylophone, I am dipping my toes into the synth world!I lacked the space for a full-size synthesizer keyboard and instead wanted something compact and portable that could still make weird and intriguing sounds. This fits the bill perfectly! I absolutely love it and have been completely unable to put it down since it arrived! If you play with the large pitch dial at the back then you can get even more exciting sounds from it!Another reviewer mentions that there is a constant hiss when using the headphone socket. This is true but I don't mind it. I think it adds to the retro feel.I think it's a very stylish and clever piece of kit! I love the functions and the 'ribbon strip' that Dubreq have added to this next generation of the classic model. I think that these give it more playability than the original. It meets the high standards I would expect from a Stylophone product and from Dubreq.I don't know how I ever lived without one now! I have both Autism and Asperger's Syndrome and this has really helped me cope with it. I highly recommend this product both for being really fun and for people who are on the autistic spectrum.

Vintage gadget
Bought for a funny present for my son, but was delivered with no packaging and address stuck on box..reported this but nothing done. Tried to remove sticker but just ended up with a ruined box. Not a good look for a present
