Side Sleeper Sleep Mask, Patented, 100% Blackout, Pale Grey

I rarely ever write reviews, but this sleep mask is so awesome I felt compelled to express my gratitude. First off, I’m extremely picky about quality and products doing what they claim. Secondly, my head is on the smaller side so finding a mask that doesn’t fall off can be tricky. I looked at so many sleep masks and read tons of reviews before this one ended up in my cart. I work 12 hr night shift, so blocking out light for sleep (even with black out shades) is of the utmost importance. I generally have a tough time with things in my face or head and can’t even sleep with my hair down due to being a light sleeper, so finding a mask that isn’t irritating was also important. This mask blocks out 100% of light (even with all the lights on) it lifts completely off your eyes, so you can open your eyes and blink with the mask on. I wear false eyelashes so finding an eye mask that worked with lashes was also important to me. This mask fits my head without falling off and is completely adjustable. It can be made very small, medium, or even large. It is great quality all around. You can tell as soon as you open up the nice box and feel it. This mask is NOT some cheap junky piece of material with velcro. It is high quality, completely adjustable, and does not contain any velcro (many do and don’t last). This mask is not irritating to wear and the fact I can completely open and close my eyes without them even grazing the material is awesome. The price point for this product is an amazing deal in my opinion. I will be buying more for gifts to my fellow night shifter friends and a back up for myself in case I travel and lose it. If you wear a sleep mask and are in the market for a new one you can’t lose getting this one. Don’t even bother looking at the others. This is my 1st purchase of a sleep mask. I bought it for an international flight. I researched them all before I settled on the ALASKA BEAR brand. I am so glad I bought this one. It is SO soft, blocks out all the light and has a super soft contour fit that snugs your eyes. It really helped me relax and tune out others, especially when the person in front or behind opens their window shade to a bright sun when the rest of the cabin is dark. I will give these as gifts this year.

So, I have a short forehead, a tiny nose, and really sensitive ears. I have tried at least 10 different types of masks, but they all are either too tall on my forehead that they practically sick up over the top of my head, or they cover my nose to the point that they stick out over my nose. ALL of them have had that metal buckle that sits on the temple or right at my ear. That hurts! One mask had the metal closer to the back of the head, but the fabric that went over the ears was padded, and that put extra pressure on my ears and hurt. The other masks also slide around on my face, some even popping off my head during the night, because I'm a side sleeper and the mask sticks so far away from my face and is slick. The last thing the other masks do is make my face sweat, no mater how "breathable" they say the fabric is. Well, it isn't breathable if its shiny and slick. THIS mask from Alaska Bear did non of those things! The fabric is soft, stretchy, and actually IS breathable. The elastic is thick yet soft. The buckle is in the back and you can't feel it when you sleep. The padding around the eyes is minimal, and my lashes kinda touch, but it's not bad. I wear it pretty loose and that helps. The fabric that covers your ears is thin and soft, so it doesn't bother sensitive ears. Also, this mask doesn't cause over stimulation on my face like the other masks do. If you have ADHD/ASD you know what I'm talking about. It blocks out the light almost 100%. The little bit of light that gets in is from around my tiny nose. My husband tried on my mask and said there was zero light leakage. I just ordered him his own Alaska Bear mask, because he jokingly said he's gonna use mine when he's asleep during the day. He works 3rd shift. Even though this mask is more expensive than any other mask I've tried, it's 100% worth the extra money. I've probably spent 5x the cost of this mask on other masks that cause me to wake up throughout the night to fix it. So, if you're on the fence because of price, just get it! You won't be sorry!

3.5 stars rounded up. I've had this eye mask for 5 months and, overall, it's great. The material is soft and smooth, it doesn't leave creases on my face, I don't find it to be overly hot, it's super easy to adjust, it doesn't rub uncomfortably on my ears, it does block all light for me, I can open my eyes without them rubbing, neither the tag nor the low profile adjustment slider bothers me, etc. I'm primarily a side sleeper and rarely a back sleeper. It's comfortable in both positions. It came in a plastic ziplock style bag (a cheap one for sure, but better than nothing) which I appreciate, as I continue to keep it there when not in use. I don't wear it every night, more like 3 days a month depending upon how dry my eyes are. I have two concerns, though. A minor concern is the wrinkles in between the eye pads. No big deal right now, but it worries me that the padding might start to disintegrate soon or rip open. The much larger concern is that it's not ideal for people with small heads. I have a small head and it's so difficult to find items that work well in a world full of big heads with the one-size-fits-all approach. The circumference of my head is about 20" where my eyes are and even on the tightest adjustment, as I stretch this over my head for use, it seems to keep stretching out a bit and it started close to be being too large to begin with. I'm worried it's going to just start sliding down my face soon. As you can see in one of my pictures, you can only adjust the tightener/slider to a certain point because it then runs into another seam so nothing bothers your ears. I really wish they had a S/M and L/XL version, so those of us with small heads don't have to worry that we can only stretch it over our head so many times before it simply won't stay in place anymore. Furthermore, when you have a small head and the eye cups alone are about 7.75" wide, the raised eye cups are already nearly touching my ears and I wish they were a bit more narrow too. I know it's incredibly difficult to get people to do anything, like measure, before they purchase and then complain online 😂, but most people at least know if they have a small or big head and a size differential would be so helpful. If you have a big head, this is 5 out of 5 stars. If you have a small head, it's the best I've found so far, but not flawless. Good luck to my fellow small heads out there.

I've tried several different sleep masks over the past few years, this one is the most comfy and cool while still being effective at blocking all light. I move a lot in my sleep and so far these have stayed on all night, every night, with no chafing, heavy sweating, or excessive pressure on the eyes. They're also machine washable, though if you're hand washing they dry in just a few hours of hanging.

I have several other sleep masks from Alaska Bear, in a few different styles. I used the others until they literally fell apart. I have also tried a few other brands, but overall this brand has produced my favorites that get the most use. This one, though, is by far the best and most comfortable style yet, with one small caveat. The fabric is very soft, kind of stretchy, and doesn't distort, pill, or wrinkle up with use or washing. It doesn't irritate my very sensitive skin, and is very lightweight. The memory foam eye cups are a good depth for me, and are very soft and comfortable. The wrap-around on the sides and the little fabric flap at the nose are my favorite features; this mask is more effective at blocking light than any other mask I've tried, and the wrap-around on the sides means it is very comfortable on my ears and doesn't shift as much when I sleep. The one and only complaint I have is the sizing. I have what I thought was a pretty average sized head for a female, but this mask is a bit too large. It does have a sliding buckle on elastic on the back, which allows for some adjustment, but because of the wrap-around fabric there isn't as much room for adjustment as my other versions. Even adjusted all the way down to the smallest size, it still wasn't snug enough for preference. (I used my sewing machine to cinch the elastic a little tighter) In addition, I feel like the eye-cups wrap a little too far around the side of my face, and would be more comfortable if they were slightly narrower in width. What I'd really like to see is an overall smaller version of the same mask as an option. Still, even with the slight sizing complaint, this is still hands-down my absolute favorite sleep mask so far. I'm getting much better sleep. I will be purchasing several more so I always have one in rotation. If Alaska Bear releases a smaller version, I'll buy a whole bunch so I always and forever have the best sleep mask ever. Does this sound like an exaggeration? It's not melodrama: this sleep mask really is a revelation for me, and I don't ever want to be without one.

I currently use this mask, but it's far from perfect for me. Pros: * The foam gives them shape to stand the mask away from the eyelashes * The foam is not uncomfortable against the temple for a side sleeper Cons: * The strap is not comfortable. * It slides around more than I'd like, but tightening it more would be uncomfortable * It exerts pressure across too narrow an area; if it were wider, the pressure would be dispersed better * The adjustment ring, and the extra material and stitching, which permits length adjustment, lines up with my left ear when the strap is adjusted for my head * These let in too much light around the nose, including under the eyes near the nose. If there was extra material that extended beyond the foam (a skirt), they would block more light without being uncomfortable. * The nose opening starts too low and I don't have a large nose! I tried the LKY DIGITAL store "Sleep Mask 3 Pack, Upgraded 3D Contoured 100% Blackout Eye Mask for Sleeping with Adjustable Strap" mask, but couldn't use it because the foam around the edges was too stiff or thick. It created discomfort against my temples. It also had the same strap issues as this mask. I'm a side sleeper, and the length adjustment rings and material are not comfortable when on my left side. I can change the angle of my head to reduce the pressure, but a strap like on the FRESHME Store's "100% Handmade Cotton Sleep Mask Blackout - Comfortable & Breathable Eye Mask for Sleeping Adjustable Blinder Blindfold" mask would be far better. I couldn't use that mask because it lays directly on the eyes, and I didn't like the pressure on my eyelashes. The adjustment bump lines up with my left ear, so whether I put the strap over my ears, which isn't terribly comfortable on either side due to the width of the strap, or between my ears and skull, which can press too much against the top edge of where the ear and skull meet, that bump is uncomfortable, even painful, for my left ear. A side sleeper with a smaller head would have less problem since the bump would be behind the ear or head. However, the slip ring near the left temple is still noticeable. For back sleepers with a large enough head, the bump would not be at the back of the head, and therefore not a problem, but a back sleeper with a smaller head might not like the bump being at the back of the head. You'd think with all of the cons I've listed, that I wouldn't use this mask. However, it's the least uncomfortable mask I've found thus far, and it blocks light pretty well, so I'm using it. UPDATE: It turns out Alaska Bear has a mask better suited for side sleepers: the "2022 Patented ALASKA BEAR Sleep Mask Headband Design 100 Blackout Eye Cover for Women Men Side Sleeping, Comfortable Soft Eyeshades for Meditation Workout Travel". That one has a *very* comfortable strap for a side sleeper. However, the foam that forms the "lenses" is stiffer and/or thicker than the foam on this mask, and the "lenses" are too small for me, so the side sleeping variant is better and worse.

Nice silk sleep mask. Lightweight, smooth, and soft. Totally covered light. The adjustable strap makes sizing easily. Had a nice sleep on flight.

I’m really happy with this sleep mask! It’s very comfortable to wear, soft on the skin, and blocks out the light really well. I was surprised by how much it actually helped me relax and fall asleep faster. I sometimes have trouble falling asleep, especially when there is even a little bit of light in the room, but this mask makes a noticeable difference. It creates a dark and calming environment and helps me switch off and get ready for sleep. It also stays comfortably in place during the night without feeling too tight or putting pressure around my eyes. The material feels nice and lightweight, so I barely notice I’m wearing it. Overall, I really like this sleep mask and I’ve been sleeping better since I started using it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has trouble falling asleep or is sensitive to light. Great quality and very useful!

Little bit chunky and let's light in when I lay on my side. Was prepared to pay for a premium product but this isn't much better than my cheaper mask it was replacing. Just ok.
