Great little Dab/FM radio!
Very easy to tune. 6 presets. Three for DAB and 3 for FM. (3 preset buttons. You get the drift) The Radio is small and a good size with a rubber carry strap. It uses mains power or 4 AA batteries. The sound is quite nice. Quite good for the size. Classic FM and BBC Radio 3 sound good, and so does Capital Chill, haha. The radio has a good volume range. Reception is key, even with DAB. When I took it upstairs Iโm sure it sounded clearer. Itโs a great little Radio for the shelf in the toilet or maybe even a bedside, or the table where you work. Take it anywhere, itโs small enough. Yes, very good.

Good !
Good little radio. A few points that occur to me initially. The hand strap (flexible rubber) is a good idea but it could be a little bit longer - I have quite small hands but it won't go over them without a struggle. The radio runs off DC 5V so it should be easy to knock up a cable (centre pin +ve) to power it from a USB source which could be handy. For me however, the fact that it also can run off 4 x AA batteries is a real plus as I can use rechargeables in it. Quite a lot of the small DAB/FM radios on Amazon have their own internal rechargeable batteries which I am never keen on as they may be difficult to replace when they get worn out. The volume control is nice and sensitive so it is possible to use it in a quiet environment at low levels without disturbing other people (ie a sleeping partner !). I have read reviews of other radios where the minimum volume is quite loud. I cannot comment authoritatively on how sensitive the reception is. I am using it at my mother's house in Henley on Thames which is not a good area for FM reception let alone DAB. As I suspected, it works outdoors OK but indoors DAB is not available and FM is so-so but tolerable - I guess the sensitivity is average and to be honest for a budget radio like this I was not expecting too much. The stated aim of switching off FM transmission completely at some point in the future is barking - in my opinion ;) Sound quality is better than would be expected for it's size and weight. So, overall I am happy with the purchase and am confident that for me at least, at this price point it is the best option on Amazon at the moment for performance, value, features & design. Just a quick update after a week of use - the sound quality is most definitely better than could be expected. Of course it is not hifi and it is not particularly loud but at moderate volumes it is virtually free of distortion and has a nice engaging sound. It is a lot more sensitive than another DAB radio I have tried and can pick up stations indoors in Liverpool even without the aerial extended ! This could be par for the course for most DAB radios now. I am not sure because it is several years since I tried one here - the one I used was also a premium brand (Pure) which I now keep it on my boat but this Roberts radio would beat it hands down.

Value for money
Very good small portable radio, not the best Roberts make but very good value for money. 5 stars. After a short time playing about with this radio it is an excellent piece of kit and worth every penny.

Bought another this week so highly recommended by me
Lovely little radio - bought for a friend. Easy to pre-set stations and being able to run on batteries handy when on the move. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this purchase

High quality sound from a small radio
Lovely modern and stylish compact radio. I was very surprised at the excellent sound quality from such a small unit. Normally radios of this size tend to sound very tinny. So this radio is a good high performance purchase.

GOOD ROBUST & WELL-DESIGNED PORTABLE RADIO - BUT NOTE: ONLY MONO EVEN WITH HEADPHONE LISTENING
I found this ROBERTS portable radio to be generally very well designed and also robustly made. The basic controls are simple to use and large enough for all finger-sizes and abilities. The instructions are very clear and easy to read, and I found that for a small portable radio both music and speech were more than amply clear . There is a simple menu button for switching between DAB & FM, and I found the quality of sound of both formats crystal clear. The menu button can also be used to further optimise sound quality of various stations . Tuning through the numerous various stations is very easily performed by turning a fairly large knob, and the radio's visual panel then displays which station is being aired in ample-sized lettering. Up to 3 DAB channels and also up to 3 FM channels can then be simply preset for instant access at the touch of an individual button. In brief, this ROBERTS portable radio has been generally well thought-out and designed for remarkably simple operation, and so would equally be suitable for persons of 'maturer' years who may well find the operation and small button-sizes of other similary priced portable DAB/FM radios more difficult for those who may be less dextrous. However, there are inevitably some drawbacks in this fairly budget-priced radio. For instance, the information on the easily-read screen is limited basically to displaying the name of the station tuned. Others will know that many other even cheaper DAB radios display such information as the names of artists and also details of music tracks being played etc. Also, if using this as a personal radio to listen through headphones/earphones, the listener will soon realise that the sound is purely mono. After so many deacades listening to the spread of stereo sound, some may find it distinctly uncomfortabe listening for any length of time to find the sound seemingly coming from a mere pinpoint in the centre of the head. There are some other portable radios of comparative price on the Amazon site which are of metal/wood construction and which have twin speakers, which Amazon customers review as having ample stereo sound. For some 'maturer' listeners, although there is an attached hand-strap for carrying from the wrist, the weight of this ROBERTS radio is rather heavier than smaller models -especially when optional batteries have been inserted. However, in comparison with smaller, lighter models, these possible deficits are far outweighed by the benefits of the ease of operation of this ROBERTS model -and especially the comparitively larger button sizes. In summary, this retro-looking ROBERTS portable radio should prove more than satisfying in providing easily accessed enjoyable listening at a very reasonable price.
