An inspiration to drummers who have not yet tried jazz.
Great on background to jazz drumming. Bought it for a zoom course and it was the key text of the course. Very practical in building the foundations and gradually adding difficulty. This is the kind of drumming text that I will return to a lot over time.

A great reference book for professional and 'would be' professioals
I bought this for my son, who is in his final year of a BA in professional musicianship- drums/percussion. It had been recommended to him by one of his tutors- a professional drummer/percussionist. My son has only been using it for a few weeks, but says it has great jazz pieces and ideas to play around with for backing and solos. I can't say much more than that, but thought the fact that a professional had recommended it, would help prospective buyers. Delivery was excellent too.

So i was recommend this by a friend when he heard i wanted to try and develop my Jazz technique...and i'm so glad he did! Very helpful book.

I love this book and CD
I love this book and CD. I've been working on it for months. The comping exercises are very interesting and musical. They become increasingly complex, and if you use them as recommended by the author, you'll have lots to keep you productively learning for a while. The recordings are also very enjoyable to listen and play along to. For some of the faster recordings, I lowered the tempo and then increased them little by little until I could play along. For those who don't read music, I think that you could ease your way into it with this book. The earlier exercises are pretty basic and usually only include one limb. For example, since the bass drum, hi-hat, and ride cymbal stay the same in the first two comping exercises, they are not written in, so you can focus on the snare drum. Later, comping and solos include more limbs, but by then you are ready. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in getting into jazz or even just incorporating aspects of jazz in whatever other styles they play.
