First of all, I have to tell you that I love to grill. And not just meats. I often make up skewer of veggies, soak them in olive oil and spices and cook them on the grill. I also grill slices of eggplant and squash. For 25 years I lived in a private home, with a back yard and grilled often, even in the winter (I had to shovel snow off the grill). Now I live in a condo, which cannot legally allow gas grills on the balconies. At our prior condo residence, we owned a Charbroiled electric grill. It was such a piece of junk, I threw it out, rather than pay the expense of moving it. After living without a grill for a year, we decided to take a chance and buy another one. The Foreman had good reviews, but who knows? I should also say we tried a smaller Foreman in the apartment, but since the apartment filled up with cooking smoke, I tossed it in the garbage. The design of the Foreman Grill is different than the Charbroiled we had. The heating element is built into a telfon coated cast iron cooking surface. When the heating element heats up, the entire cast iron surface retains the heat. The Charbroiled had an electric heating element and a grill above it (like a gas grill). It just did not transfer enough heat and when you opened the lid, you lost so much heat, it took 10 minutes to heat up again. Also, there was something wrong with the Charbroil design, and the thermostat kept melting (yes melting). I replaced the heating element once and the thermostat 3 times in three years. I have had the Foreman for a month now, and used it about 10 times. It cooks evenly, retains heat, is predictable in the heat settings (I use 4/5 for most cooking), gives food the grill marks you like to see and taste, and seems to work well. There is no sign that the thermostat is melting. Installation was literally a snap, everything just fit together, no tools needed. My one complaint, is that the lid is not hinged, so you must find a place for it when you are fiddling with the food on the grill. I considered giving it a 4 for that reason, but overall, it does such a good job for so little money, I decided that the cost benefit ratio was high enough to give it a 5 star rating. Also, the size is moderate, but that is limited by the amount of energy you can get from a single electric outlet. I am also not wild about a telfon surface. The entire element lifts out after it has cooled and you can rinse it with soap and water (do not submerge, there is a heating element in it). Takes a little scrubbing. I am not a fan of teflon, and would have preferred a surface with cast iron that I could use a metal brush on. George, if you are listening, build me a little larger unit (remember I set the thermostat at 4/5, so there is some excess energy capacity), put a hinge on it, and I would buy the upgraded unit at twice the price.

We made the mistake of buying the newer version of this grill (GFO240S) at Walmart over Labor Day Weekend. We were intrigued by it, thought it came close to being a perfect grill after using it that weekend, but were upset by there being no place to put the lid when checking on the food, having to take the entire top part off to clean, and there being no vent hole in the top. So after our first use I decided to look on Amazon to see if they had other versions and surprisingly found this one. I couldn't believe there was a version that had the features we were looking for! Then I later discovered that the perfect version is the OLD version and the one we bought at Walmart was the NEW version. That was shocking. Why take a product whose features include a removable plate, lid vent hole, and way to hang the lid off the side so you can free up your hands to check the food, and then replace it with a bare bones model and call that one "NEW"? They are cutting corners. I immediately ordered the perfect old version, this one, then returned what we bought back to Walmart. When the GGR50B version arrived we cooked on it that night. What a difference! What perfection in a grill! My husband was so happy he said he was done with his old charcoal monstrosity, that he found the grill he has been looking for all of his life. We've spent so much money over the years on grills trying to find one he likes. Gas, charcoal, it didn't matter. We must have been the only people on the planet that never had a George Foreman grill before! Well, we like it soooooo much I thought I better research and make sure they are still making these for the day, years from now, when we might need a replacement. I went to the George Foreman website, this model is nowhere to be found. So, I decided to order another one on Amazon to keep in storage as a backup, because apparently they just don't make them like this anymore! We are still saving money buying two George Foreman GGR50B grills in one week, Amazon currently has a $10 off coupon making this $80. Two grills at $160 is still cheaper than the one crappy charcoal/gas grills we have been buying! That is how strongly we feel about this grill. The new version (GFO240S) we recommend you stay away from. It is okay, but if you can get this version, you would be far better off. Oh, and don't wait, because this version may not be around long if it is no longer available at the George Foreman website. This grill cooks evenly, has plenty of cooking space, is easy to clean, and doesn't have a large footprint. I built it, and shocked my husband by that fact when he came home. I am notorious for being afraid to try to put new things together and make him build everything. It was so easy to build, a clueless grill builder like me put it together in about two minutes! Oh and I never grill, but this grill is so easy to use that now I cook on it! Another miracle. On a side note, I rarely buy things without researching on Amazon. It was on a whim we tried the George Foreman grill from Walmart. This is a prime example of why I should never buy anything on a whim, continue to research via Amazon, and if they have the best price, buy from Amazon. I will be updating my review as time goes on, as long as this version is still available, to let you know how it holds up to almost daily use.

This grill is great! East to assemble and easy to clean when done. The food tastes magnificent with no mess. It’s easy to remove the drip pan and I highly recommend this George Forman grill. It’s so easy to use, clean up is simple and food tastes amazing.

We needed something to replace our patio bistro grill,. a propane unit, but in the winter time its so cold the propane tank doesn't want to work. and its a pain to go outside and fight the wind and weather to dig it out of the snow drifts we have and use it. So this unit stays in our basement (Cement floor) and we use it downstairs to cook our fish, steaks etc....I considered giving it a 5 star rating, and it may really deserve it considering the value you get for the price it costs. The only flaws i found on inspection of the unit was concerning the heating plate itself, on the bottom of the unit you see how the circular loop is mated into a the metal plate to disperse the heat of the electric element. I found three small nick on the metal on the bottom that had chunks of metal missing from the manufacturing process that exposed small portions of the heating element. Nothing to cause any big issues, but since the heating plate is washable, it would expose the element to rust since there wasn't any silver colored metal material to cover the exposed areas. Easy to fix, i whipped up some Metal JB Weld stuff and dabbed it over the exposed areas, and let it dry. no problems it works great. Also Assembly is very simple, the only thing that may be an issue is when you plug the cord with the pronged adapter into the grill unit plate, be careful to line up the prongs with the holes. you would think it impossible to mess this up, but there is just enough lee-way to bend one of the prongs down and think that the unit is connected when its not. The burner light will even light up telling you its on, but the plate wont heat up. Take it out, unplug it and check to see if you accidentally pushed down one of the heating plate element prongs. just get a screw driver and bend it back, its pretty flexible, once or twice. Don't do it often or it will break. I got the plate to heat up to 481 degrees, hotter where the circular element actually is located inside the plate, i used a laser thermo to point and find the temp. it does disperse the heat fairly well though. let it heat up for about 10 mins or so, if it isn't hot, then you bent one of the element prongs down or up and didn't get them both in the hole. I did see complaints about not heating, and this is what causes it to occur.

GOOD NEWS! Please Read at the end of this review because I just added a new update on 8/3/2023 This grill has been AMAZING. It heats up quickly to grill steaks, chicken, salmon, burgers, and vegetables. It really seals in the flavors and everything comes out tasting delicious. We ordered it to use on our deck per rules against the use of charcoal and propane. We store the plug-in indoors immediately after use once the grill cools off and cover the body of the grill with a heavy duty grill cover. 11 months after we purchased it I noticed a strong plastic electrical burning odor coming from the grill while it was heating up and the component that plugs into the grill was super hot and I immediately unplugged it thinking it was close to catching fire. And I'm glad I did because the element was melting and burning (see photos). I called Amazon and they were nice enough to offer me a full refund on the amount I paid for it and told me to dispose of the grill. I'm hoping it's a fluke and not typical because up to this point it worked perfectly and there were no issues. I like the grill so much that I'm reordering another with the refund I was given. I'll give an update in a few months on the replacement because I don't want to discourage anyone from buying it unless it happens again. —————————————————— Update 12/20/17: The replacement grill has been terrific so far (about 7 months in) and is performing without any problems. No problem with the cord or plug-in getting too hot. It’s winter now so we won’t be using it much until next season. I’ll give another update then. ————————————————————— Update 7/19/18: The grill’s pronged plug-in component is working fine and hasn’t overheated whatsoever on my replacement grill, so that’s the good news. The bad news is the Teflon has begun to flake off in the last couple weeks(see photo) and I use nothing to clean it other than Dawn dish soap and the recommended OXO Good Grips hand brush that I purchased with my first George Foreman back in the June 2016. I’m going to reach out to the manufacturer and see if they’ll replace the Teflon grill plate because other than that it’s been great. I had no flaking on my previous GF. —————————————————————UPDATE 7/19/18....30 Minutes later: Great news!! The manufacturer is sending me a replacement Teflon grill plate. They asked me to provide the model number which I looked up on Amazon and a manufacturer number or date (?) engraved on the bottom underside of the grill plate. The Customer Service Agent couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating. The replacement grill plate will be delivered within 10-14 business days. 😊 ————————————————————— Update 7/26/18: The grill plate replacement was sent (see photo) but it was missing the metal prong receptical that screws onto the back of the plate and the old one won’t unscrew even with an electric driver without stripping some of the screws. The grill plug-in won’t fit or work without it. I called the manufacturer’s CS and they said the plate should have Included the metal component that screws on the back. They were supposed to send another plate and called back to say they’re out of stock and would instead send a new grill. Sounds great, right? Except that’s been a problem too. They asked me ship them my electric cord at my expense. One trip to UPS and a phone call later, due to their error, they instead told me cut through the plug-in cord with heavy shears and send photos to prove to them that I wouldn’t use my old grill — ugh. I just want to use my grill w/o having to jump through more hoops. I filled out another online form and uploaded the mandatory photo because I guess the manufacturer believes their customers are shady even after having sent them 2 screenshots of my amazon proof of purchase with dates and the price paid. I no longer recommend this grill. It seems to last only about a year before something goes wrong. I have no idea whether I’m being sent a replacement or not since their CS Rep has neglected to return my request for a call back and I can no longer use mine even if I wanted to now that the cord is cut. ———————————————————————UPDATE 5/2/2023….I failed to report back that I was sent the missing parts a couple weeks later after my last update in 2017 and I’ve had no issues at all with the grill since! Everything turned out and after all this time the replacement grill is still going strong and no issues with the grill plate flaking or the plug overheating/melting. I will take new photos this week and add them to my review so you can see for yourself. In short, I take back what I said in my last update in 2017 and HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GRILL great buy! 👍👍 ________________________________________________Update 8.3.2024…this grill is still WONDERFUL AND GOING STRONG 8 YEARS LATER…what?? Yep! I added another photo of my husband grilling bison burgers on it from 2 nights ago. We moved across country and almost didn’t have room for it and I told the movers to make room and it was the last item loaded on the truck and it made it completely intact over 3000 miles. 😋

This is my first time to purchase and use my own barbecue grill. We just moved to a house with a big sunny patio that was just screaming for a barbecue. I read lots about different kinds of grills on amazon and other web sites, especially customer reviews. I had decided on the Weber gold grill, since that seemed to be the all-time favorite. I had concerns about the environmental and health effects of the smoke/pollution caused by traditional grilling, but I thought it was one of those things I'd simply have to deal with, if I wanted to cook tasty food on our wonderful sunny patio. I don't know why I didn't buy that charcoal grill; I had it in my shopping cart at amazon for like a week. I guess I was still worried about the environmental thing. I went back to looking up electric grills, and as before, I noticed most of the reviews were pretty wishy washy. Then, all of a sudden I noticed all of the excellent reviews for this George Foreman grill. Some of the people said the food tastes just as good; some said they actually PREFERRED this to the charcoal grill, and some of them said you can grill outdoors without all of the hassle and mess of charcoal. Oh, I hadn't thought of that particular advantage! I'd love to have less clean-up to do. Another thing: I don't know much about making a fire and cooking with it (this was something I figured I'd learn, trial by fire, as they say, once I got my charcoal grill). So ... even though I had planned on learning it, I do have lots of other things to do in life, and if there was a way for me to get the effect I wanted (outdoor cooking), without having to learn how to deal with charcoal, etc, well, all the better. And, the Weber grill was like 50% more expensive than the George Foreman. So I decided, why don't I just buy the George Foreman, and if I don't like it, I can always buy a charcoal grill later. In fact, I figured I was going to need at least 2 grills when I throw a backyard party, so why not just start with the cheaper, easier solution and see how it goes. So I got the George Foreman, and it has been a big hit! When the food is cooking, it smells so good! Smells like a real barbecue to me, even though there's no charcoal smoke. I'm vegetarian, so we've only cooked veggie stuff on the grill ... apple-sage artisan veggie sausage links, tofurkey dogs, asparagus, eggplant, veggie skewers (onions, yellow squash, zucchini, tomatoes, red peppers, whole garlic cloves), and buns. We tried roasting corn on the cob directly on the grill as shown in the picture, but it got too dry. So we wrapped the corn in aluminum foil, and it comes out so juicy! Yum! Everything else we've tried comes out perfect, directly on the grill. We use the grill on the highest temperature setting "5," and pretty much keep the lid closed the whole time. This electric grill makes so much sense. We have outdoor electrical outlets in the back of the house ... why go to all the trouble to make a fire with charcoal when we can get the job done with electricity! I think it will work out awesome if we just get a couple more before our big housewarming party. My boyfriend says people will complain that it's not authentic, if we don't have a charcoal grill. But the thing is: the food is delicious, it's easier to clean up (in fact, REALLY EASY!), it's better for the environment, it's healthier for us (cleaner air to breathe, and less risk of burns or starting a fire, esp. when children are around), and the real fun is being outdoors in the sun, smelling the food cook, and enjoying each juicy morsel hot off the grill, which is definitely what you get with the George Foreman. So if people think I'm wimpy/selling out, well, that's their problem. The same people who can't see how sensible this is, surely think I'm wimpy for being vegetarian. So who cares what they think! I love the grill, and I think most people who try the food cooked on it will love it, too.

I love this grill! Because I live in a condo, I'm not permitted to have a gas or charcoal grill on my patio. There's a charcoal grill out in my courtyard and I've seen so many of my neighbors haul all of their supplies out to the grill: charcoal, lighter fluid, matches...then they've got to come back in and grab the food, the aluminum foil, seasonings, their tongs/spatula or whatever. It seemed like so much work to enjoy a summer cookout. So I started on a mission - to find a grill that I could enjoy on my own patio. I read other great reviews on this product and also thought it was very affordable. I decided to order and try it out. Once I finally got it unpacked (it was in a box inside a box inside a box) it was quick and easy to assemble - probably took me about 10 minutes. So far I've grilled chicken and steaks and hope to try hot dogs soon. I really love grilled foods because I can try different seasonings/sauces and make a healthy meal. Before I either had to broil (which can overcook steak in a heartbeat) or bake chicken which took forever. I prefer not to use a saute pan because then it takes up yet another burner on the stove. This grill is so easy - it heats up very quickly, I turn the food over once, and I've got a delicious piece of meat in less than 10 minutes. Because its outside on the patio, I don't have to turn the oven on and warm up my whole kitchen/condo. I actually look forward to grilling so I now cook at home more often than I eat out. Its so quick and simple to turn out a meal for one now, I've even lost a few pounds. Its also a cinch to clean. Once the grill cools off, I just take a damp papercloth and wipe down the surface. Because George Foreman makes such a quality non-stick surface, the BBQ sauce or marinade that I used comes right off. I'm even thinking that if I remove the grill from its stand, this would also be great to take on my camping trips (when I have campsites with electrical outlets). The only thing I wished is that it had an inter-changeble flat top grill so that I could cook up some bacon or pancakes or eggs. But maybe this option does exist (I haven't looked yet.)

I’m honestly very happy with this grill. It heats up quickly and cooks everything evenly without drying the food out. The grill marks come out great and make the food look and taste like it was made on a much bigger, more expensive grill. What I love most is how easy it is to use. The temperature control is simple, and cleanup is way easier than I expected. The surface doesn’t stick much at all, even with chicken and marinades. It’s perfect for quick meals, especially when you don’t want to turn on the stove or deal with a full outdoor grill. Great size, solid build, and it feels durable. If you want something convenient that still gives you that grilled, homemade flavor, this is absolutely worth it. I’d definitely buy it again.

Excellent. Easy. Cooks to Perfection! This machine has seriously made our lives so much easier. We had a small BBQ the same size as this machine and we hated the clean up and how long it took to get things cooked. This made the cook time reduce incredibly and the clean up is easy. The grill racks are so easy to clean that you literally only need a wet towel to wipe it down. it's great! We would definitely recommend it to anyone! Plus you can use it inside as theres barely any smoke that comes out of it!

It came as a different village that I wasn’t aware if so when I plugged it in it fused and couldn’t be used again .
