BRITA Elemaris XL water filter jug for reduction of chlorine, limescale and impurities, Includes 1 x MAXTRA+ filter cartridges, 3.5L -Black

I've tried water filters before, and usually found them to be less than acceptable in terms of ease of use and effectiveness. Ironically, a few years back I bought a Brita kettle, that we ended up slinging, the taste was awful (and that wasn't cheap). So, somewhat reluctantly, and especially since it was such a good price, I decided to try this (Elemaris XL). Now insofar as the taste of our water (unfiltered), to be honest, I had no real problem with, but my wife doesn't like, and gets through 2l of bottled water a day to drink (she didn't mind tea and coffee with unfiltered water) Constantly buying cases of bottled water is both costly, and bulky, with the resultant plastic waste. So then, to this Jug filter. I have to say, it is brilliant, very well designed for ease of use, in fact it is a really quality piece of kit. The easy pour counterbalanced filling and pouring covers are superb. No flap to lift to fill, a delight to use. Water filter through into the main reservoir pretty quickly which is good, so even if totally empty you'll be good to go in a few short minutes. This is quite a big jug, with a large capacity (which is what we wanted), and we do now use for tea and coffee as well as purely plain drinking. My wife is very happy with the taste as am I, and no more constant bulk packs of bottled water. What we do is keep the jug filled and ready for tea and coffee etc; as well as filling a 2l lock and lock fridge door water jug. That way, chilled drinking water ready, and water ready for the kettle. The extra 2l for the fridge is a great standby for the kettle as well if you forget to refill the jug. Great product, great value, and well worth the money. I would definitely recommend. The taste is every bit as good as bottled water. I hope that you have found this review to be helpful.

I bought this one on july 2018, and a year after the handle broke, from the joint where the most stress falls when lifting the jug filled with water. This jug is big, less refilling of water needed, the taste of water is great, so different from tap water, your body will thank you for it, all limescale filtered. It needs regular cleaning tough, monthly or twice weekly, as it has many tiny gaps in between. The handle could be made stronger, but no worries, because if it doesn't resist the weight of the kettle when filled with water and brakes, you are covered by the warranty. Brita will modify their design if they receive many cases broken at the same place, but that is up to them. We just keep drinking water and reporting any faults or suggestions to them, they made it, they can also modify it to make it better. About my broken handle. I contacted Brita through their website, and they offered to help me promptly. They just needed pictures of where the fault it was to assess it if it was cover by the warranty. A few hours later they replied and offered to send me a replacement. This just made my day, amazing and professional service. After 3 days I received the replacement by Royal Mail; furthermore, I was thinking that they were going to send me just the base, but they send the whole thing and they even included a filter in it. : ) So, yes, Brita is they one to go for. I just carry on as usual, changing my filter every month, regular cleaning and all should be fine.

I bought this Brita Elemaris XL water filter jug to replace the Brita Marella XL water filter jug...not because there was anything wrong with the Marella but it was blue...my husband bought a blue jug to go in a black/white kitchen....it's in the details I told him! Anyhow both jugs come in the bigger family size of 3.5 litres. The filtered water tastes good and as we live in a very hard water area, we pre-filter water before filling the kettle, iron etc. The water filters quickly too. Apart from being available in both black and white in the XL size (The Marella is Blue and White in the XL) there are some subtle differences. In my opinion, the Elemaris looks better and has a greater quality feel about it. It is easier to poor and easier to hold as the handle is better ergonomically. It is also easier to fill as the cap drops when the water hits it rather than having to hold the fill cap open. The Elemaris also has colour co-ordinated anti-slip feet at the bottom with gaps underneath that will allow any spilt water to dry rather than be trapped under the jug leaving a wet surface. However the Elemaris does have a couple of design flaws? The fill hole is at the front of the jug meaning that if you have unfiltered water in the fill chamber and you want to pour filtered water the unfiltered water comes out of the fill hole so the two mix. This only happens in the extreme if you have the fill chamber full but it can and does happen. I always use the jug when the fill chamber is empty or nearly empty. Secondly, If you fill the fill chamber quite high the wates escapes from the handle (Where the top of the jug and the handle meet) I kept getting little puddles on my work surface and couldn't fathom from where they came from until one day I felt it coming down the handle after I had filled the jug. It doesn't flood the surface because as soon as enough water has filtered through the water level has dropped below the leak line. I am aware of these flaws and they are easy to work around but I have given the jug 4 stars to reflect this. It doesn't affect the daily use of this filter jug and the Elemaris is the jug I prefer both in looks and ease of use. I would recommend this water filter jug.

We really needed a new filter jug. Not only had the indicator stopped working but the paint was pealing off the lid inside and out! It had lasted us years though; if I remember correctly it was one of the early Classic models I think. The Elemaris is made by Brita (a brand we trusted), was stylish, the base had been designed not to allow the bottom to sit in water which is a brilliant idea and its also stated to hold a larger amount of water than our jug so it was not a hard decision to make. However now we have it there are a few things that are not as good as our Classic. The main problem is the filter itself. The old classic filters, pictures 8, sat deep into the water container (picture 5) and had a reservoir around the filter which allowed all the water from the the container to drain into the filter. It also had 4 exits at the bottom, 2 at the top and 4 round the top leaving nothing in the water container. With the Elemaris the Maxtra filter the reservoir sits slightly above the pocket it fits into so there is a border preventing all the water going into the filter (picture 1). As you can see from pictures 3 the Maxtra filter has 2 slits either side at the very top, a ‘flap’ on either side which allows water straight inside the filter, 2 slits just below this ‘flap’ and 2 slits on the sides at the bottom (picture 10). All of these entrances to the filter are kind of useless as the border prevents some of the water going down (picture 11/12). Picture 1 is what remains when you do not push the filter in properly!!! You have to make sure it is pushed in tight so no water can seep round the edge. Sometimes the water does not filter through at all! So what I have found is if you press these ‘flaps’ in the water flows again. I think it releases the trapped air. The next problem is the exits. In picture 4 you can see that there are two but the pocket it goes into only has one exit which fits up into the filter. This means the water has to rise above the border before it can drip out of the water container. This again leaves a residue shown in picture 2. Pictures 7 and 9 show the problem with the handle. The Elemaris handle does not join at the bottom. I think this causes a lot of pressure on the top part of the handle as the jug cannot take the weight of the water. I do not know how well it shows up in the picture but you should be able to see cracks forming where the handle meets the jug. This ‘looseness’ can be felt as you lift the jug. I do not know how long the handle will last. It is unfortunate as we really like the shape and we can deal with the residue left in the water container but the handle is a major problem. The way it could snap would render the jug useless. Unfortunately 5 months down the line the handle has broken off. Fortunately I have registered it so contacted Brita and awaiting a reply.

After dropping my old filter on the floor and smashing it I opted for another Brita filter. Due to the fact I had a lot of their filters left. I'm very please with this filter. Same size as my old 1 just a different shape and colour. I like this 1 much better. Very easy to use. Add filter. Prime filter. Add lid and then water. Few mins later nice fresh clean very nice tasting water. I have to filter mine as it's horried water quality in the last few years. These filters are a life saver. I just love how they clean the water so I and my Dog and 2 parrots can drink it. Getting top marks from me of 10-10. It's well deserved for the product quality and the water quality.

My better 3/4 has written this review as this is a lady tool for her workshop, AKA 'The Kitchen.' As such She Who Must Be Obeyed has far more experience of using it. So, over to the household CEO. There is always a lot of debate in tea making, milk first, milk last? It's a personal choice, just like water - filtered or unfiltered? Well, I'm in the filtered camp and my Britta jug would be on my 'Desert Island' list. (Not with Lauren Laverne it wouldn't - my comment) This jug is the extra large one, so wouldn't easily fit in your fridge which, is perfect for me as I use it to fill up my kettle and when making a glass of squash - yes I am that odd variety that prefers my beverages at ambient temperature. (Ladies - like men only fussier...) Within the box is the water jug, which is easily taken apart for washing and a filter so, is ready to be used without any additional purchases. Once assembled, you let the filter have two flushes through or your first drink will taste dreadful - thrust me on that one! (Personally as a bloke I can't tell the difference. My wife berates me if I don't flush it but, frankly I can't taste anything odd). The water will take a few minutes to filter through from filling and probably best to get into the habit of refilling each time it's empty so you don't have to wait for it - although if you have teenage children, don't waste your breath with that instruction, unless you also have a big stick. (My advice is to invest in a cattle prod) Each filter will probably last about a month, depending on usage and I tend to stock up on the filters when they are on offer in the supermarkets as they can work out quite expensive. Still a lot cheaper than buying bottled water and a lot less plastic waste. Living in a hard water area, the other big advantage to using one of these, it negates the need to descale the kettle - I have been using filtered water in the kettle for over 10 years and in all that time, have never needed to descale the kettle. So as well as making my morning cuppa taste better, it improves the life expectancy of kettles and coffee makers. (Bloke comment here. We bought a painfully expensive Dualit kettle but, it has lasted ten years so far with plenty of use and still looks good. Spend the money on quality - it will save you in the end.) Overall, if you stick to using a filter that removes many of the chemicals in your water you can expect a better cuppa and less problems with your kettle.

Easy to use, quick to filter, stylish to look at and easy the set up I love the water sensor actually tells me when to change the filter (Less than a month) as we have a very hard water. It does the job as No limescale is building in the kettle yet (we have a glass one so it is easy to notice the difference). The design is not that smart. When you fill the jug from the top and the pressure from the tap opens the flap of the collection tank. You can't pour the filtered water until it finishes filtering as the water from the top tank will leak from the flap, it would be better if the flap would opens to the back which will prevent this

I've never really liked Water filters before, having tried several and friends' and families' houses. Most of them would never be big enough and they seemed to be replacing the filters all the time. However, I took a punt on this filter as it was supposed to be an XL size and the best quality filter yet. I have to say, I have been converted. Having just purchased a house in what turned out to be a "hard water" area, this has been an invaluable purchase over the last couple of weeks and I use it several times a day. It has an easy to read sensor on top so you can tell when to change the filter and an "easy fill" hole in the lid so you don't have to try and get it off and on every time!

Devi dire che inizialmente ero un po' scettico perché non credevo alla efficacia di queste caraffe filtranti, in realtà dopo alcuni giorni di utilizzo mi sono letteralmente ricreduto. Queste caraffe infatti, grazie alla presenza di un filtro molto particolare ed efficace riescono a cambiare notevolmente il sapore dell'acqua. L'acqua filtrata infatti, ha un sapore buonissimo lontano mille anni luce da quella di rubinetto. Finalmente niente più carichi di acqua al supermercato, niente più sacchi di bottiglie di plastica sul balcone. Unico neo per me, è quello di riempire le 2 bottiglie di vetro e metterle in frigo perché bevo solo acqua fredda, inverno ed estate. Che dire più, se non quello di affermare che sono pienamente soddisfatto di questa caraffa. Peccato non averla acquistata prima😩😩 Devo rettificare, purtroppo dopo tre mesi il manico si è rotto come ad altre persone, quindi occorre sicuramente rivedere il design per il futuro

Good looking, easy to use and works excellent!

Ayant déjà eu une carafe Brita il y a une dizaine d'année, j'avais arrêté de l'utiliser car je n'aimais pas le goût de l'eau que je trouvais "lourde". Cette nouvelle carafe me réconcilie avec l'eau filtrée. Tout d'abord, la carafe est belle, pratique à remplir (pas besoin d'enlever le capot pour le remplissage et ça, ça change tout!)... et la taille normale fait qu'elle n'est pas lourde à manipuler. Le filtre nouvelle génération fait qu'elle filtre assez rapidement. Et surtout, l'eau est meilleure qu'avec les anciens filtres. L'eau ressemble à de l'eau en bouteille... Je conseille donc ce modèle (le remplissage avec clapet automatique est un vrai plus).
