They are of a nice weight, but the chains could be a lot more robust (sterling isn't that expensive). The moonstones are not very well domed, so the adularescence (the moonstone optical effect) is not very pronounced. As an amateur cutter I know these stones need a higher dome shape to fully appreciate this beautiful, soft reflective phenomenon. Nonetheless, they are eye catching and I'm sure our teenage grand-nieces will love them. The pendants have a solid back which is both reflective and prevents seeing through these thin, translucent stones. I suspect there may be a little color on the back to lend a uniform pale blue reflection. That's cheating a bit but the back also makes the piece more durable. To clarify, moonstones are cut from white rough material most often, or a peachy/buff color material. This material, if the color is natural, marks it as the more desirable pale blue moonstone. All are feldspar gems containing admixtures of different varieties of feldspar precipitating out in layers as the crystal grows from a molten state. The content of calcium, sodium, or potassium in the material determines the type though these elements substitute for each other in varying proportions as aluminum silicates. The detail and workmanship are quite nice.The verdict: Beautiful and well-made for the money, but a more durable chain would be nice. A higher dome on the stone would show them to greater advantage. Moonstones are CHEAP so this should not be a cost-control problem. But what I really don’t like is that it is completely see through. So there’s a sterling silver scroll design on the back and even up against your chest you can see that design. It’s super annoying.
